The Navy men’s lacrosse team just got a major boost less than one month away from its first game of the 2022 season.

Xavier Arline, the former No. 5 recruit in the Class of 2020 by Inside Lacrosse, had spent his first two fall seasons in Annapolis playing quarterback for the football team. He appeared in 12 games over those two seasons, gaining 386 yards rushing and 169 yards passing with three total touchdowns.

He focused solely on football during that time, but now Joe Amplo and his staff can add the attackman to an offense that graduated leading scorer Christian Daniel. On Wednesday, news that Arline had been added to Navy’s lacrosse roster made the rounds on social media. The sophomore will wear No. 24.

A shifty 5’9” attackman, the Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.) product is shifty with his feet and crafty with his stick. That made him a high profile recruit out of high school, and he initially committed to North Carolina for lacrosse. But the itch to play football was undeniable, so he de-committed to test the waters.

That’s how he landed at Navy, where he will now have the opportunity to play both sports.

In 2019, Arline was one of the top 50 players in the U.S. men’s U19 player pool. He played in that summer’s Blue-White exhibition game.
