Ryan Brown, One of Best Shooters in Lacrosse History, Retires After 7 Seasons

One of the best shooters in the history lacrosse is hanging up his stick.

Ryan Brown, a 2018 gold medalist with the U.S. national team and a 2022 Premier Lacrosse League champion with Waterdogs LC, announced his retirement from professional lacrosse on Wednesday. He played seven pro seasons.

“After a long run, I have decided that my playing days are now behind me,” Brown announced on Instagram. He continued: “As I am sad to close this chapter of life, I am eager to see where life will take me next.”

Brown finishes his career with 180 points on 146 goals, five two-point goals and 24 assists. A pure shooter, Brown combined velocity, accuracy and deception — his release point never tipped a shot’s direction — made him one of the best to ever do it.

A one-man wrecking crew in the 2018 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in Netanya, Israel, Brown led the U.S. with 25 goals and was named to the All-World team.

He was also a lethal scorer at Johns Hopkins, scoring 159 goals (with 50 assists) from 2013-16. Drafted by Major League Lacrosse’s Charlotte Hounds in 2016, Brown exclusively played for Charlotte in the MLL before joining the PLL.
