Eli Gobrecht has been named to the roster that will represent the United States in the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships following an injury to Tom Schreiber.

The 28-team men’s international championship runs from Sept. 20-29 in Utica, N.Y. The U.S. has captured the bronze medal at each of the previous five world box championships, most recently in 2019. This year will also mark the first year that World Lacrosse will host a women’s world championship. The roster for the U.S. women’s team will be announced next week following a final training camp.

“The coaching staff and I are excited to be adding Eli Gobrecht to our active roster,” said U.S. head coach Regy Thorpe. “Eli is a seasoned veteran with a ton of experience. His compete level, toughness and grit will be great for our squad as we enter the world championship.”

Gobrecht was an All-American defenseman at Ithaca, earning recognition from the USILA as the NCAA Division III Defenseman of the Year in 2016, and has gone on to have success in pro lacrosse in both box and field lacrosse.

Gobrecht has played with the National Lacrosse League’s San Diego Seals for the past four seasons, compiling 323 loose balls in 58 games. In the Premier Lacrosse League, he is a two-time all-star and currently plays with the Philadelphia Waterdogs. He helped the Waterdogs win the 2023 PLL championship.

Schreiber will miss the world box championships for the second straight time after being injured during a PLL game on Aug. 16. Schreiber, who has won two gold medals with the U.S. field team and a silver medal with the U.S. sixes team at The World Games in 2022, was also injured leading up to the 2019 world box championship.

“Unfortunately, our team took a blow this past weekend with the injury to Tommy,” Thorpe said. “We will miss him at the world championship and wish him a speedy recovery. Tommy is not a guy you can just go out and replace, but our depth has grown over the last few years, and we are fortunate to have some great players on deck.”

The U.S. Men’s National Box Team trains and plays using game-changing, high-performance equipment from Warrior and high-quality precision uniforms from Uncommon Fit.

In addition to these partners, Gatorade, MedStar Health and Stryker are official sponsors of the U.S. National Team Program. Team training is also aided by products from Athletic Republic.

Funding for the national teams also comes from generous donors to the USA Lacrosse Foundation. Help support the team.
