Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. World championship feeling.

Brennan O’Neill, the youngest player on the team, led the U.S. to the 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in San Diego with a five-goal performance in a 10-7 victory over Canada in the final. It was the 11^th overall championship for the U.S, second straight and third in the last four events.

2. Best of the best.

Brennan O’Neill’s 15-goal performance in the tournament earned him MVP and most outstanding midfielder honors. He was one of four USA players named to the all-world team, joining J.T. Giles Harris, Blaze Riorden (outstanding goalie) and Michael Sowers.

3. High school stars from the West.

Charlotte Corkins (Colorado Academy) and Ethan Pearson (Mountain Vista HS) are the USA Lacrosse West Region High School Players of the Year.

WHAT WE’RE READING

• Short-stick defensive midfielders often fly under the radar, but not on the 2023 U.S. men’s team. Zach Goodrich, Danny Logan Jake Richard and Ryan Terefenko were four of the most appreciated and key members of the gold medal team.

• Rob Pannell finished the 2023 world championship with 70 points over his three stints on the U.S. team (2014, 2018, 2023) to set a program record, but the hunt for gold is what drove him.

• The San Diego Union-Tribune on the USA world championship victory.

• Henry Hasselbeck, a Maryland lacrosse commit, will instead play college football at Michigan State.

Ryan Terefenko would not be denied as he helped run out the clock in the gold medal game victory.
