Brogden Cup Day 1 Results, Boxscores and Top Performers
SPARKS, Md. — Day one of the 2024 Brogden Cup is in the books.
The USA Select teams finished Friday unbeaten, the stiffest test coming in a chippy 8-5 win over the Haudenosaunee in U16 boys’ action at USA Lacrosse’s Tierney Field.
Deliberate on offense and physical in the middle of the field, the Haudenosaunee scored first and only trailed 5-4 at halftime.
The USA Select U16 team responded by blanking the Haudenosaunee in the third quarter, but still only led by two.
Jayden James (Syracuse), the top defenseman in the Class of 2026 according to Inside Lacrosse, made the biggest highlight with an over-the-head strip as time expired.
The U.S. got breathing room in the fourth quarter, as Army commit Joe Hauck and 15-year-old George Caldroney completed a hat trick.
The Haudenosaunee U18 boys' team also had an upset in mind when it stormed to a 4-0 lead over Team Ontario. But the Canadians outscored the Haudenosaunee 8-1 in the second half en route to a 9-6 come-from-behind victory.
The most dominant performances came from the USA Select U18 girls, who followed up a 25-0 shutout of Team Ontario with a 22-1 victory over the Haudenosaunee in the nightcap.
