The Mustang Classic once again proved to be one of the best traditions in men’s lacrosse, hosting 10 games in two days while showcasing some of the best talent in Division III.

Nine teams ranked inside the Nike/USA Lacrosse Division III Men’s Top 20 headlined the event, leading to more movement across the ranking.

Christopher Newport looked impressive with two wins over top-10 teams, but more importantly, York got back into the win column with wins over Franklin & Marshall and Bates.

Dickinson also boosted its perfect record with two wins in two days, and Amherst has now won three straight since falling to Tufts.

Outside of the Mustang Classic, Wesleyan was upset by Colby on Saturday, and Cabrini added a second straight win with a 15-12 victory over DeSales.

Week 7 hits the ground running with Tufts and Lynchburg facing off Tuesday, and RIT has a top-five matchup with St. John Fisher on Wednesday.

HOT

Amherst (+6)

Amherst is proving that it belongs inside the top 15 after following up a loss against Tufts with two wins last weekend. The Mammoths followed up a close loss to Tufts with wins over Bates and Gettysburg. Three different players have already accumulated over 15 points in their first four games, and Nicholas Kopp has been dominating the possession game, facing off at over 65 percent.

NOT

Gettysburg (-4)

The Mustang Classic wasn’t kind to the Bullets, who went 0-2 in the event. They did, however, play two tough teams in Christopher Newport and Amherst. Now, they have to find a way to get some momentum back without dropping a third consecutive game. Next up is a game against Haverford on Friday.

IN

RPI (No. 20)

RPI has flown under the radar on its way to a perfect 7-0 start. A comfortable 22-9 win over Vassar last week was enough to finally move into the rankings for the first time this season. Thirteen different players had a goal in the win.

Colby (No. 19)

Welcome to the party, Colby. The 10-9 win over Wesleyan marked the program’s first win over the Cardinals since 2012. The win over a highly ranked opponent didn’t just push them to 2-1 on the year, but it also put them just inside the Top 20.

OUT

Denison (was No. 16)

Three straight losses pushes Denison outside of the Top 20 — granted, it was the team’s toughest stretch of the spring.

Williams (was No. 15)

Williams suffered its second straight loss and dropped to 1-2. The 17-13 loss against Bowdoin was the first time the Ephs scored more than nine goals thus far.
