Last week, multiple Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse players tested positive for COVID-19, an athletic department spokesperson told the Vanderbilt Hustler, a student-run news source.

Sports editor Simon Gibbs reports that the number of positive cases is unknown.

This comes just a few days after the Vanderbilt football team reported multiple positive cases, too. Chris Lee of VandySports.com reported there were positive tests last Thursday and that practice was canceled Friday.

There is not much information available on the positive tests in lacrosse. Per university protocol, the student-athletes have been moved into isolation housing to prevent the spread.

“We have been made aware of a small number of positive COVID-19 test results within our lacrosse program,” the spokesperson told Gibbs.” The results were determined through our ongoing testing procedures, which are among a number of prevention protocols we have in place to protect the health and safety of our student-athletes and our larger community.”

Per Vanderbilt’s return to campus guidelines, classes began Aug. 24 and will feature a mix of in-person, online, weeknight and weekend classes.
