The Connecticut Hammerheads controlled their own destiny Friday night at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md.

On the final day of Major League Lacrosse’s regular season, a Hammerheads win over the Chesapeake Bayhawks would clinch a playoff berth.

Entering the day, only the Bayhawks and Denver Outlaws had clinched spots in Saturday’s semifinals. The New York Lizards had already been eliminated.

Powered by a dominant second-half showing, the Hammerheads earned their third straight win, a 14-9 triumph over the Bayhawks, securing a playoff berth. They’ll play Chesapeake again Saturday at 4 p.m. EST.

Tied at 7 at the half, Connecticut (3-2) opened up a 5-2 advantage in the third quarter and finished the game with a 2-0 fourth quarter. Ben Martin scored five goals, and Bradley Voigt posted four goals and one assist.

Nine different players scored goals for Chesapeake (3-2).

The Outlaws couldn’t finish an undefeated regular season, falling to the Cannons 10-8. Even with the loss, Denver earned the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. Denver and Boston will play again at 1 p.m. EST Saturday.

Boston had already clinched its playoff berth with the win by Connecticut.
