SPARKS, Md. — USA Lacrosse is excited to announce the spring 2023 schedule for Tierney Field, the home playing field at the organization’s national headquarters. A total of 35 games are currently scheduled from mid-February through mid-May, covering all three divisions of NCAA men’s and women’s lacrosse along with high school boys’ and girls’ lacrosse.

The season opens with a familiar matchup this Saturday when Connecticut and James Madison meet at Tierney Field for the sixth time in the last seven years.

JMU is currently ranked 13th in the Nike/USA Lacrosse rankings after opening its season with a 14-9 loss to reigning NCAA champion North Carolina on Saturday. UConn, coming off of a 13-5 season that ended with a loss to JMU in the NCAA tournament, opens its season tomorrow at Fairfield.

Tierney Field highlights for 2023

  • Last year’s NCAA Division II men’s champion, Tampa, ranked No. 1 this season, will play No. 12 Seton Hill on April 22.

  • Last year’s NCAA Division II women’s runner-up, East Stroudsburg, plays against Frostburg State on March 9.

  • Dickinson and St. Mary’s continue their tradition of men’s and women’s games at USA Lacrosse. The Dickinson men, ranked No. 15, play St. Mary’s on April 1. The schools’ women’s programs play on March 11.

  • Five teams ranked in the NCAA Division III women’s rankings set to play on Tierney Field this year — No. 2 Tufts, No. 4 Salisbury, No. 8 William Smith, No. 9 Washington and Lee and No. 17 Catholic.

  • The FCA Invitational opens on March 17 with nationally-ranked Maryland high school boys’ programs Calvert Hall and St. Paul’s playing Lawrenceville and Academy of the New Church, respectively.

  • Day two of the FCA Invitational on March 18 opens with No. 4 Salisbury and No. 8 William Smith in NCAA Division III women’s lacrosse and closes with the lone NCAA Division I men’s game of the year on Tierney Field – Hobart vs. Providence.

  • The 11th edition of the Fallen Heroes Game, featuring the boys’ lacrosse programs from DeMatha and LaSalle is set for March 29. The game honors former Naval Academy roommates Brendan Looney (DeMatha) and Travis Manion (LaSalle), both of whom died serving our country in the Middle East.

  • The top two teams in the Nike / USA Lacrosse High Schools girls’ rankings — Darien and St. Paul’s — play on April 15

  • The Next Collegiate League, a group of HBCU schools playing in a Sixes format, is back for a second straight year.

  • The Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland, one of the top high school girls’ lacrosse leagues in the country, will hold all three of its championships May 12-13.
