The first WCLA (Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates) Division I coaches poll of the year, released today, has Michigan and Georgia tied for the top spot.

Michigan sports a 4-0 record that includes victories over No. 8 UCLA, No. 9 Cal Poly, No. 16 Santa Clara, and unranked San Diego State Club, all games that were played at UCLA’s Golden State Invitational.

Georgia also played in the same tournament and won three of its four games. The Bulldogs’ (5-1 overall) also have league wins over Auburn and No. 19 Clemson.

BYU (4-0), one of three teams to finish undefeated in the Santa Barbara Shootout, is ranked third. Defending national champion Delaware (3-0) and Pittsburgh (5-2) are tied for the fourth position.

Thirteen of the Top 20 teams played games in Southern California earlier this month as participants at either the Santa Barbara Shootout or the Golden State Invitational.

No. 11 Duke and unranked St. Mary’s were the other undefeated teams in Santa Barbara.  Michigan was the only undefeated team at UCLA’s event.

The WCLA features 82 Division I teams and 149 Division II teams that compete under the US Lacrosse umbrella. The 2018 season will conclude with the US Lacrosse WCLA D-I and D-II national championships in Round Rock, Texas, May 9-12.
