Michigan Club and Denver Club once again hold the No. 1 positions in the WCLA (Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates) Division I and II coaches polls, released today. Playing its first games in five weeks, Michigan recorded wins over Ohio State Club and Cincinnati Club to remain undefeated at 6-0. Denver Club was idle.

A busy week in which more than half of the ranked teams saw action on the field yielded some changes in this week’s polls, but not among the top 5 in either division.

Georgia defeated South Carolina and No. 11 North Carolina Club to retain its No. 2 spot, followed by No. 3 Colorado Club, No. 4 BYU and No. 5 Cal Poly. Pittsburgh registered four wins and climbed one to No. 6, while No. 8 Virginia Club posted wins over No. 13 Virginia Tech Club and No. 19 Duke Club.

The big event this week, with the potential to bring some shuffling in next week’s polls, is the Mile High Invitational Tournament. No. 3 Colorado Club serves as the tournament host and welcomes a number of other top 10 squads to Boulder, including Michigan, Georgia, BYU, and No. 10 Colorado State. 

In Division II, Grand Valley Club and Dayton were the big movers this week as both jumped eight spots. Grand Valley moved into a tie at No. 10 following two wins, while No. 12 Dayton moved up on the strength of its 8-6 win at No. 9 Oakland. Undefeated Wake Forest, which recorded wins over East Carolina Club and Lynchburg Club, was the only newcomer in the D-II ranking, at No. 20.

The WCLA features 82 Division I teams and 149 Division II teams that compete under the US Lacrosse umbrella. The 2018 season will conclude with the US Lacrosse WCLA D-I and D-II national championships in Round Rock, Texas, May 9-12.
