Sunday night, Division II men’s lacrosse fans finally got a look at the 10-team NCAA tournament field, and there weren’t many surprise as to who made it.

The only gripe could be a Belmont Abbey team that topped Mount Olive (fourth-seed in the NCAA tournament) in the Conference Carolinas championship game only to find itself on the outside looking in of the NCAA field.

In terms of the rankings, Mercyhurst topped Seton Hill to win the Great Midwest conference tournament and vaulted to No. 3 this week. Indianapolis swept through Rockhurst and Lindenwood to win the Great Lakes Valley and earn a bid in the NCAA tournament.

Tampa, the No. 1 team in the nation throughout the season, narrowly made the NCAA tournament field as the No. 5 seed in the North region.

HOT

Le Moyne (no change)

The Dolphins capped their regular season unbeaten, topping Adelphi (14-10) and Saint Anselm (9-4) en route to the NE-10 tournament title. Le Moyne finished as Division II’s second-best scoring defense, allowing opponents 6.75 goals per game — a deserved top seed in the North region.

Mercyhurst (+1)

Mercyhurst blew out Lake Erie in the GMAC semifinals and complete the season sweep of Seton Hill in the championship game. The Lakers boast the nation’s top offense, averaging 20.23 goals per game, and earned the No. 3 seed in the North.

NOT

Seton Hill (-3)

The Griffins made another GMAC championship game but couldn’t get past Mercyhurst for the second time this season. A win over Mercy was a major factor in Seton Hill’s at-large bid in the NCAA tournament, in which it will face Saint Anselm.

IN

Rollins (No. 19)

Rollins finished the 2021 season by winning six of seven games, including a season-closing 12-9 win over Florida Tech — avenging a season-opening loss to the Panthers. Outside of losses to Tampa and Lynn, the Tars swept through its Sunshine State Conference slate.

OUT

Pace (was No. 19)

The Setters finish their season at 6-6 against Division II competition, a victim of potentially the toughest schedule in the nation. Pace split NE10 tournament games with Bentley and Saint Anselm last week, cementing it as the fourth-best team in the conference.
