The Sting beat St. Mary’s Episcopal (Tenn.) 19-12 and Charlotte Country Day (N.C.) 18-8 before losing their regular-season finale to Walton (Ga.), 17-16 in overtime. Hutchison rallied from two down in the final minutes to extend the game but couldn’t pull it out in extra time. The Sting open the state playoffs this week. Previous: 1
3. Bishop Moore (Fla.), 20-4
The Hornets let a big lead slip away in the second half of the state championship game, but rallied to beat St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) 13-12 in double overtime for the program’s first state title. Trailing 12-10 in the closing minutes, Bishop Moore got a score from Kate Piscopo with 1:55 remaining and one by senior Jeanne Kachris with 1:23 left in regulation to tie. Abby Spalding got the winner with 13.5 left in the second overtime. The Hornets, who lost to STA earlier in the season, advanced to the title game with a 19-12 win over Ponte Vedra. Previous: NR
4. St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.), 18-2
After beating Barron Collier (Fla.) 12-9 in the state semifinals, the Raiders lost the state championship game, 13-12 in double overtime to Bishop Moore. They trailed 10-6 with under 15 minutes to play and put together six straight goals to take the lead. Bishop Moore scored twice in the final minutes and then won in the second overtime. 5. American Heritage-Delray (Fla.), 19-1
The Stallions’ season ended abruptly with a 10-9 overtime loss to St. Thomas in the third-round of the state play-in games, which was essentially the regional championship game. Freshman Caitlyn Wurzburger finished the season with 101 goals and 117 assists. Previous: 4
6. Barron Collier (Fla.), 20-2
The Cougars were up late in their state semifinal against St. Thomas Aquinas but could not hold the lead, losing 12-9 to end their season. STA scored five unanswered goals to come back from a 9-7 deficit in the final eight minutes. Seniors Jo Imbriani and Jaclyn Berry led the Cougars with four goals apiece, while Cami Lange added one. The Eagles rejoin the rankings after beating Hockaday (Texas) 14-10 in the championship game of the Southwest Preparatory Conference tournament -- their second win in three meetings with the Daisies this season. ESD advanced to the final with wins over Houston Christian (Texas) in the opening round and Kinkaid (Texas) in the semifinals. The Polar Bears continued their impressive winning streak last week with lopsided victories over Green (Ohio), Chagrin Falls (Ohio) and Western Reserve Academy (Ohio). The Falcons added another three wins this past week, including a 13-11 decision against La Costa Canyon (Calif.) to give coach Kaitlin Doucette her 100th victory on April 25. They also handed La Jolla (Calif.) just its second loss on Thursday by a 12-5 margin before finishing the week with a 15-3 win as defenders Ines Ramirez, Ryan Poe and Lauren Zhang all got in the scorebook with goals. The Hornets wrapped up their regular season in dominant fashion, outscoring three sub-.500 opponents 58-9 last week. Eight-win Carondelet (Calif.) gave them their closest game in a 15-4 decision on Wednesday, but Charlie Rudy’s six-goal, one-assist performance led Novato to victory. They added two victories last week, including a 12-10 come-from-behind win at Cathedral Catholic (Calif.) on Wednesday. Poway trailed 6-5 at halftime against Cathedral and was led by Camdyn O’Donnell’s three goals and two assists and Isabelle Flud’s two goals and four assists.
