Maryland went 16-3 and captured the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles before capturing its first national championship since 1975. Tillman coached Matt Rambo, who set team records for points (257) and goals (155) en route to winning the program’s first-ever Tewaaraton Award, and Tim Muller, who earned the Schmeisser Award as the nation’s top defender. The Terps had a nation’s-best nine USILA All-America selections, as Tillman boosted his record at Maryland to 96-29 (.768) and overall in 10 seasons as a collegiate head coach to 116-48 (.707).
Prior to arriving in College Park, Tillman was the head coach at Harvard for three seasons, lifting the Crimson into the national rankings. He headed north following a 12-year tenure as an assistant coach at Navy, where he helped the Mids to four consecutive Patriot League regular-season and tournament championships and accompanying bids to the NCAA tournament.
“John Tillman represents one of the premier coaches in lacrosse today and a great teacher of the game,” said Kim Rogers, director of events at US Lacrosse. “We’re excited to have him join the lineup of presenters at LaxCon.”
LaxCon represents lacrosse’s largest educational event and trade show. The convention is open to the public, and members of US Lacrosse can save up $40 or more on registration. Special hotel rates are available for all attendees who book accommodations before Dec. 17.
