Even 11 years after his passing, the story of Nick Colleluori lives on through the lacrosse community. Colleluori, the former Hofstra team member from 2004-06, lost a battle with blood cancer in 2006, but his memory continues through the HEADstrong Foundation.

The Pride, along with lacrosse teams around the East Coast, will celebrate Colleluori’s legacy once again with the HEADstrong Classic at Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y. As part of HEADstrong’s 10th annual Fall Event Series, five teams — Hofstra, Bucknell, Lehigh, Penn State and Hartford — will meet for a handful of scrimmages on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.

The HEADstrong Classic will also make its way to Baltimore, where Albany, Army, Johns Hopkins and Richmond will face off in scrimmages at Boys' Latin. Not to mention, three different locations (Bronxville, N.Y., Hempstead, N.Y., Piscataway, N.J.) will host HEADstrong women's events on Sunday.

It’s two days full of lacrosse action, featuring a few top teams, all for a good cause. Proceeds for the event will support the HEADstrong Foundation, which helps those affected by cancer.

The marquee game of Saturday’s Classic is the meeting between the Pride, who narrowly missed out on the NCAA tournament after a hot start to 2017, and Penn State, which converted its hot start into the seventh seed in the tournament before falling to Towson.

For the Nittany Lions, the scrimmages will offer a glimpse of what could be a powerful offense with another year of Mac O’Keefe and Grant Ament. The duo combined for 53 goals and 63 assists last season, helping Penn State finish as the sixth ranked offense in Division I last season. Lax Sports Network will be on hand in Hempstead for the HEADstrong Classic.

Hofstra has entered the fall season without its 2017 leading scorer, Josh Byrne, who won MLL Rookie of the Year honors and was picked first overall in the NLL Draft. Sophomore Ryan Tierney will be looked to help lead the offense, now with a year under his belt.

The game to watch in Sunday’s Nick Colleluori Classic Baltimore will take place at 2:30 p.m., when Connor Fields and Tehoka Nanticoke will take on Johns Hopkins. It’s another chance for the nation’s leading scorer and top recruit to build chemistry ahead of the 2018 season. For the Blue Jays, it’s the culmination of a different fall season — one in which they tried box lacrosse.

Elsewhere in the world of fall ball:

  • A week after knocking off the MLL’s Ohio Machine, the Ohio State Buckeyes will travel to the Baltimore area to battle North Carolina in the Michael Breschi Scholarship Fund Game. Proceeds will go toward the scholarship fund, named in honor of the life of Tar Heels’ coach Joe Breschi son, Michael. The game will take place after youth clinics for children grades 1-8.

  • Notre Dame continues its fall tour of the country. The Irish, who took down Team Canada last weekend in Buffalo, N.Y., will travel to San Francisco to face off with Harvard on Saturday.
