Don’t blink. You might miss Lauren Gilbert as she streaks toward the cage.

One of the fastest players in college lacrosse, Gilbert has become one of the top scoring threats for Northwestern as it looks for a Big Ten title.

Gilbert, from a non-traditional lacrosse area in Oregon, is also one of the Wildcats’ leaders in the absence of Tewaaraton Award finalist Izzy Scane. She has become the vocal leader, instilling the confidence in her teammates to succeed. She’s also spent time working with the Northwestern coaching staff to refine her game, making her one of the most dangerous offensive players in the country.

She spoke with Sheehan Stanwick Burch about her rise to prominence at Northwestern and what she tells herself to stay motivated.
