1. Novato (Calif.), 2-0

Charlie Rudy scored 12 goals and assisted two others to lift the Hornets to a 22-8 win over formerly-ranked St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.). Jamie Level added five goals and two assists, as Novato exuded its power in the West with one of the program’s most impressive victories. Novato was scheduled to play Monday before heading to South-ranked Vero Beach (Fla.) as part of a four-game road trip that also includes national No. 1 McDonogh (Md.). Previous: 1  

2. California High (Calif.), 3-0

The Grizzlies haven’t dominated any games yet but they keep getting the job done. Senior Isabella McHugh assured a victory over San Ramon Valley (Calif.) on Friday, netting seven goals and assisting two others in an 11-7 decision at home. The Wolves held a 5-4 lead at halftime. Previous: 3

3. Colorado Academy (Colo.), 1-0

The Mustangs opened with a 15-6 win over Regis Jesuit (Colo.) and built some confidence after having to replace some key players from last year. Freshman Katharine Merrifield impressed with seven goals and one assist and classmate Jessie Bakes added three goals and two assists in their varsity debuts. Previous: 4  

4. La Costa Canyon (Calif.), 4-0

The Mavericks ended Torrey Pines’ 34-game win streak, beating the former No. 2 Falcons 10-5 on the road March 7 to launch themselves into the rankings. Seniors Caitlin Jones and Tessa Bass tallied four goals apiece and junior goalie Alex Walling finished with 13 saves. LCC then added a 12-8 win at Cathedral Catholic (Calif.) to remain unbeaten. Up next is another big test at also-ranked Mater Dei (Calif.). Previous: NR

5. Cherry Creek (Colo.), 2-0

The Bruins outscored their first two opponents 36-11. Senior midfielder Pearl Schwartz had seven goals in an 18-6 win over ThunderRidge (Colo.) in the opener March 8, and Isabel Anema, Amelia McCarthy and Katie Collins each tallied four goals to lead Cherry Creek to a win over Denver East (Colo.) on Saturday. Collins added two assists, and Anema and McCarthy each had one assist. Previous: 5 

6. Torrey Pines (Calif.), 1-1

The Falcons opened their season with a 10-5 loss to La Costa Canyon (Calif.) after falling behind 7-2 in the first half, but they bounced back with a thrilling win over Coronado (Calif.). Kelli McKinnon scored the game-winner with 4.2 seconds remaining to put Torrey Pines ahead 11-10. Previous: 2

7. Lake Oswego (Ore.), 0-0

The Lakers warmed up for their season opener with a scrimmage at Eastside Catholic (Wash.) on Saturday and won 12-9 in the “Battle of the Border.” They officially get started Tuesday against Oregon Episcopal (Ore.). Previous: 7

8. Arapahoe (Colo.), 1-0

The Warriors opened with a 15-3 win over Kent Denver (Colo.) on Friday, as Meg Hanson led with seven goals. Molly O’Shea added three goals and one assist, and Andie Thompson had one goal and four assists. Seniors Molly Galloway and Rachel Searle split time in goal and averaged a .625 save percentage. Arapahoe is off until March 27 when the team opens a pair of spring break games in California against Poway and La Costa Canyon. Previous: 8  

9. Eastside Catholic (Wash.), 0-0

The scrimmage against Lake Oswego was a good test between two defending state champions, and the Crusaders are now ready to open Wednesday against Roosevelt (Wash.). Previous: 9  

10. La Jolla (Calif.), 3-0

The Vikings enter the rankings after knocking off former No. 10 Mater Dei (Calif.), 13-9 on Friday. They opened with three games last week, including wins over San Marcos (Calif.) and El Camino (Calif.). Previous: NR

Caitlin Jones, La Costa Canyon (Calif.)

The senior scored all four of her goals in the first half to help the Mavericks establish control en route to a 10-5 win over then-No. 2 Torrey Pines (Calif.) on March 7. The host Falcons and two-time defending CIF San Diego Section Open Division champions had taken a 2-0 lead but Jones’ scoring barrage helped LCC break open a 7-2 lead going into halftime.
