Between her illustrious college career at Maryland and her time building a powerhouse at Northwestern, Kelly Amonte Hiller is one of the most successful people in the history of lacrosse.

Hiller won two national championships (1995, 1996) under Cindy Timchal at Maryland. She then spent time with the U.S. national team, winning world championship gold medals in 1997 and 2001.

After spending time as an assistant in the college ranks, she accepted a position as coach of the Northwestern women’s lacrosse program — which was revamped in 2000. Having known little about the school, she took a chance.

Two decades and seven national championships later, Hiller is one of the all-time greats.

She sat down with Paul Carcaterra for Season 3 Ep. 3 to talk about her lacrosse journey, the active Hiller household, what went into her decision to accept the Northwestern job and why she thinks the Wildcats are back.
