Perhaps no player on the Carrier Dome’s field was more important than Katelyn Mashewske last week.
The sophomore midfielder from Henrietta, N.Y., was pivotal in No. 2 Syracuse’s Thursday-Sunday doubleheader against ACC foe Notre Dame, which entered last week ranked third in the Nike/US Lacrosse Top 20.
The draw specialist recorded 12 draws in Thursday’s 18-14 win, then somehow one-upped that performance by winning 13 draws in a 15-12 win on Sunday.
All told, she won 25 draws with one ground ball and one caused turnover, earning her US Lacrosse Division I Women’s Player of the Week honors.
Syracuse trailed 7-2 on Sunday, but Mashewske’s mastery of the circle helped turn the tide and shift momentum into the Orange’s favor. Once they got the lead at 8-7, they never looked back.
