TD Ierlan's dominance on faceoffs helped No. 2 Albany stage a dramatic late rally, scoring four goals in the final 3:18 to defeat Cornell 11-9.

Ierlan won all 24 faceoffs he took in the game, and allowed Albany to play make-it-take-it in the closing minutes after Cornell had taken a 9-7 lead with 7:28 remaining.

Albany had plenty of possession, but couldn't solve Cornell fifth-year senior goalie Christian Knight. Knight finished the game with 19 saves and Albany's frustration seemed to reach a boiling point when Knight made back-to-back saves with three and a half minutes to play.

After the second save, Knight came out of the crease to help corral a loose bal,l which Albany grabbed only to shoot and have Cornell defenseman Jake Pulver step into the crease and stop the shot.

But Cornell was whistled for a penalty in the scrum, and Albany's Sean Eccles ripped a lefty 12-yard shot from the right wing on the extra-man opportunity to end a stretch of more than 16 minutes without a goal for the Great Danes.

With a little over two minutes to play, Eccles ripped another outside shot to tie the game 9-9. Less than a minute later, Eccles fed Justin Reh for the go-ahead goal with 1:17 to play.

Connor Fields completed the late run on a nifty finish inside with 0:38 left on a feed from Tehoka Nanticoke.

Albany's victory moves it one step closer to an epic 1-2 showdown at Maryland next Saturday. Maryland is ranked No. 1 in the Nike/US Lacrosse rankings while Albany, which still has to play at Massachusetts on Tuesday, is No. 1 in the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.

Fields (3g, 2a) and Eccles (2g, 3a) led the Great Danes offense, and got help from Kyle McClancy (2g, 1a) and Nanticoke (1g, 2a).

Knight, the 2014 Ivy League Rookie of the Year who missed the 2016 season with a injury, set a career-high with his 19 saves. His previous high was 18 against Albany in 2015.

Jordan Dowiak led Cornell with four goals, including a pair of goals during a late 3-0 Cornell run the gave the Big Red its 9-7 lead in the fourth quarter.
