Holy Cross announced Wednesday night that the men’s and women’s lacrosse programs will cancel the remainder of the 2021 season due to a “violation of team standards of the college’s COVID-19 health and safety protocols.”

The cancelation of the season is effective immediately. The men’s lacrosse team was slated to finish out its season with a matchup against Boston U on April 23, while the women’s team was hosting its home finale against Lafayette on April 24.

The rest of the Holy Cross athletic programs resumed practice and competition while the college moved its health protocols to Yellow alert following a pause starting on April 9.

The Crusaders’ men’s team sat at 2-4 on the season, wrapping its schedule with a 10-7 victory over Lafayette on April 4. Holy Cross’ two wins came in the first (victory over Sacred Heart on Feb. 27) and last games of the year.

The 2021 season was the first for coach J.L. Reppert, who took the helm at Holy Cross on Jan. 22 following six seasons as an assistant at Maryland.

The Holy Cross women’s team, too, finishes the season at 2-4 following a 13-10 loss to Army on April 1. A matchup with Boston U on April 10 was postponed following an athletics pause, which has now turned into a cancelation.

Coach Amanda Belichick completes her sixth season at the helm of the Crusaders program, which sat fourth in the Patriot League prior to the cancelation.
