Hobart’s Matthew Pedicine won an NCAA Division I-record 32 faceoffs in the Statesmen’s 22-12 victory over Siena on Saturday to earn Warrior/US Lacrosse Player of the Week honors.
Pedicine, a senior from Clark, N.J., broke the previous NCAA record of 30 shared by Syracuse’s Bill Dirrigl (vs. Cortland, March 16, 1988), UMass’ Sam Joseph (vs. Harvard, April 20, 1994) and Army’s Tony Vozzolo (vs. Lehigh, April 1, 2003). He went 32-for-37 against the Saints after posting a 22-for-32 line against Canisius in Hobart’s opener. Winning faceoffs at a 78.3-percent clip, Pedicine has established a pace to surpass his 2018 mark of 65.9 percent, which ranked sixth nationally.
The Warrior/US Lacrosse Player of the Week, selected by US Lacrosse Magazine staff and contributors, recognizes the top performers in Division I men’s lacrosse throughout the season.
