Taylor Cummings is ending her time as a coach at McDonogh (Md.) the same way she did her playing career.
On top.
Cummings, who led McDonogh (Md.) to the IAAM A conference championship with a 13-8 win over St. Paul’s (Md.) on May 12, announced on Instagram that she’s stepping down after five seasons as the Eagles’ head coach.
“A long chapter has officially (and sadly) closed,” Cummings wrote. “Ten years of my life — four as a student, one as an assistant and five as a head coach — have been spent at McDonogh and they were truly some of the greatest. This place and these people are so special and they will have a part of my heart always.”
Cummings, 28, retired from playing in 2022 after being named MVP of the World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship and winning a second gold medal with the U.S. women’s national team. She won four IAAM titles as a player at McDonogh, two NCAA championships at Maryland, two gold medals with the U.S. team and is a two-time IAAM championship-winning coach at her alma mater. Cummings also won the inaugural Athletes Unlimited individual crown in 2021 and is the only three-time Tewaaraton Award winner in history.
The Eagles finished the 2023 season 20-1 and are ranked No. 2 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse High School Girls’ National Top 25.
