Up-and-Down Week for Several Teams in USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25

No. 1 Archbishop Spalding remained atop this week’s USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25, and that’s remarkable for a season marked by change at the top of the rankings. Two new teams from the Northeast Region also climbed into the national rankings.

Choate (Conn.) picked up a win over Taft (Conn.) to ascend in the national rankings. The Wild Boars had already dispatched of Belmont Hill (Mass.) and have now won three straight since a narrow loss to Deerfield (Mass.). Belmont Hill also joins the rankings after winning nine straight games since its loss to Choate.

Archbishop Spalding (Md.) kept its top billing with another perfect week. The fact that the Cavaliers' first win last week came against a Calvert Hall (Md.) team that had opened the season so strong helps. Spalding controlled the game and followed up with a win over Severn (Md.) to run its winning streak to seven straight.

St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) has put together a challenging schedule, and the Friars again impacted the rankings. First, it was Chaminade (N.Y.) picking up an historic win over the Friars, who then showed some great resolve in bouncing back to hold off former No. 2 Lawrenceville (N.J.). Chaminade (N.Y.) moves up a couple of spots for its win. The Flyers' only loss came against Loyola Blakefield (Md.) early in the season.

Loyola Blakefield was connected to another Top 25 move. St. Paul’s (Md.) beat the Dons in a key MIAA matchup that gives them the tiebreaker in the conference standings. St. Paul’s couldn’t move any higher when Calvert Hall turned around from its loss to Spalding to defeat the Crusaders.

Bullis (Md.) has won seven of eight games to remain in the rankings. The Bulldogs lost by a goal to St. Paul’s early in the year, and their only other losses have come to higher ranked Spalding and Landon (Md.).

The remaining MIAA regular-season schedule goes into next week and the New England Prep West still had another week beyond them, meaning there are ample opportunities for teams to rise.
