Another U.S. national team star has joined the Division I head coaching ranks. Harvard announced Thursday the hire of former USC associate head coach and U.S. gold medalist Devon Wills as the head coach of its women's lacrosse program, just 16 days after fellow Team USA teammate Michelle Tumolo became head coach at Wagner.

Wills enters the Harvard program after six seasons under Lindsey Munday at USC, mentoring goalies like Gussie Johns, who also competed for the 2017 U.S. women’s national team. She also worked with the Trojans defense during that time.

In Wills' first season at USC, the Trojans set an MPSF record with a 20-game winning streak. USC also became the first-ever West Coast team to host an NCAA tournament game.

She replaces former Crimson coach Lisa Miller, after it was announced in June that she would not return for the 2019 season. Miller finished her Harvard career with a 191-139 record over 21 seasons.

Wills will lead a program fresh off a 6-8 season in 2018, which included a 2-5 record in Ivy League play.

"It is a privilege to be named The Carole Kleinfelder Head Coach for Harvard Women's Lacrosse, and I am very grateful for this opportunity," Wills said in a press release. "Harvard provides its student-athletes with an unparalleled college experience, combining rigorous academics with nationally competitive athletic opportunities. I am excited to return to Ivy League competition and am committed to building a strong program that will contribute to the championship history of Harvard women's lacrosse. I am confident that we can create an energetic, positive, and successful experience for our student-athletes.”

Before landing with USC, Wills served as the associate head coach at Denver (2013-15) and an assistant at Dartmouth (2010-11).

Playing for the U.S. national team from 2007-2017, Wills established her legacy as one of the greatest goalies in lacrosse history. She was a captain on the 2017 national team, which captured gold in the FIL World Cup and IWGA World Games. In all, Wills earned four gold medals and All-World honors in her lengthy involvement with the U.S national teams program.

Wills also helped usher in the first season of the UWLX in 2016, joining the Long Island Sound as the second overall pick in the inaugural draft and leading them to the first UWLX championship. She was also the director of player relations for the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League in its inaugural season this year.

During her college career, Wills led Dartmouth to the national championship game as a player in 2006. She was a three-time All-American.
