SPARKS, Md. — US Lacrosse today announced that Bonnie Rosen, a National Lacrosse Hall of Famer and the Temple women’s lacrosse coach, will speak to high school and youth girls’ lacrosse coaches at the 2019 US Lacrosse Convention (LaxCon), set for Jan. 11-13 in Philadelphia.
Rosen enters her 13th season atop the Owls and 23rd as a collegiate head coach. She built the Connecticut program from scratch and coached the Huskies for 10 years before moving to North Broad Street. Her coaching tenure has followed a brilliant playing career, during which she helped Team USA win two gold medals and one silver medal in the Federation of International Lacrosse World Cup. Rosen was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2010.
“I am thrilled to see LaxCon return to Philadelphia and to have an opportunity to be a presenter,” Rosen said. “As the sport continues to grow and evolve, the US Lacrosse Convention continues to be the best way for coaches (and officials) to learn from one another, be inspired by each other and prepare for the upcoming season. I am looking forward to experiencing the excitement and energy that comes from having so many passionate lacrosse coaches, players, officials, vendors, and fans all in one place!”
Rosen sports a 106-101 record at Temple and helped the Owls move from the Atlantic-10 Conference to the Big East Conference, reaching the latter’s tournament final in 2016. She has coached dozens of players to league and regional honors, and the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association consistently has highlighted Rosen’s teams for academic success.
Rosen played lacrosse and field hockey at Virginia, as a defender helping the Cavaliers win the 1991 NCAA lacrosse championships. She was a regional All-American, captain and team MVP of both sports at Virginia before embarking on a 14-year playing career in the US Lacrosse National Teams Program. Rosen played on the 1997 and 2001 U.S. teams that captured the World Cup and the 2005 squad that finished second.
“Bonnie represents a true leader, whether it’s mentoring her players or serving in various organizations that help to grow the game,” Kim Rogers, director of events at US Lacrosse, said. “We appreciate her speaking at LaxCon and are looking forward to her session.”
The specific date and time of Rosen’s session will be announced as the convention draws near.
LaxCon represents lacrosse’s largest educational event and trade show, drawing upwards of 7,000 each year to learn the game, network with others in the community, and then develop the sport locally upon returning home. Special hotel rates are available for all attendees who book accommodations before Dec. 17. Members of US Lacrosse save $40 or more on LaxCon registration.
