College lacrosse season is here.
If you’ve been following the MCLA’s countdown on Instagram, you know that even though NCAA teams are still two weeks away, the virtual varsity season starts Saturday with two games in Texas. UT-Dallas hosts Louisiana Tech and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi takes on Baylor.
Defending national champion Grand Canyon is ranked No. 1 in the Nike/US Lacrosse MCLA Division I Preseason Top 20 (listed below). The Lopes have won two of the last three Division I titles and feature a pair of national player of the year candidates in juniors Jack Lamey, a long-stick midfielder, and Cam Wengreniuk, an attackman.
St. Thomas starts in the top spot in the Nike/US Lacrosse MCLA Division II Preseason Top 20 (listed below). The Tommies advanced to the national championship game in 2017, falling to Concordia, which moves up to Division I this season (ranked 20th). St. Thomas is eying its fifth MCLA title.
