Glenelg (Md.), the palindromic public school, took down one of Maryland’s top private schools in a high school girls’ lacrosse tournament it hosted last week, sending the Gladiators soaring in this week’s Nike/US Lacrosse National Top 25.

In addition to defeating then-No. 4 Notre Dame Prep (Md.), Glenelg, the defending Maryland 3A-2A state champion, also beat reigning 4A-3A champ Dulaney in the event. The Gladiators are now 8-0.

McDonogh (Md.), Garden City (N.Y.) and St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes (Va.) remain in the top three spots, followed by Ridgewood (N.J.) and Christian Brothers (N.Y.) to round out the top five.

1. Garden City (N.Y.), 9-0

The Trojans pushed their win streak to 27 games after going 3-0 last week with some impressive performances. Garden City topped Needham (Mass.), 14-3, followed with a 13-6 win over Longmeadow (Mass.) and then defeated former second-ranked Darien (Conn.), 17-11. Four Garden City players scored at least three goals in the Darien win. The Trojans play West Genesee (N.Y.), Long Beach (N.Y.), and Moorestown (N.J.) this week. Previous: 1

2. Christian Brothers (N.Y.), 4-0             

The Brothers went 2-0 last week, cruising past Central Square (N.Y.), 21-5, and Westhill (N.Y.), 12-5. Tessa Queri (Harvard) finished with eight goals and four assists in the two wins. The Brothers face a daunting week with matchups against Fulton (N.Y.), Wantagh (N.Y.), and Mount Sinai (N.Y.). Previous: 3

3. St. Anthony’s (N.Y.), 4-1

The Friars were idle last week and will be again this week. St. Anthony’s next plays Our Lady of Mercy (N.Y.) on April 24. Previous: 4

4. Darien (Conn.), 4-2

The Blue Wave recently lost senior co-captain and leading scorer Laura Murphy and junior defender Charlotte Harmon to season-ending knee injuries, and their absence was felt in a big game last week. Darien dropped a 17-11 decision to top-ranked Garden City but did get wins over Brien McMahon (Conn.) and Staples (Conn.). Darien plays Ridgefield (Conn.) and Bayport-Blue Point (N.Y.) this week. Previous: 2

5. Northport (N.Y.), 5-0

The Tigers were idle last week. Northport faces Commack (N.Y.), Sachem East (N.Y.) and New Canaan (Conn.) this week. Previous: 5

6. Pittsford (N.Y.), 3-0

The Panthers defeated Churchville-Chili (N.Y.), 11-2, and Corning-Painted Post (N.Y.), 11-7, last week. Elizabeth Blanding totaled two goals and three assists in the C-PP win. Caroline Cullinan (Notre Dame) had five goals and two assists in the Churchville-Chili win. The Panthers travel to Long Island this week for games against Yorktown (N.Y.) and Scarsdale (N.Y.). Previous: 6

7. Cicero-North Syracuse (N.Y.), 6-0

The Northstars topped Westhill (N.Y.), 8-7, in their only game last week. They built an 8-5 second-half lead and held on for the win. Jessica Meneilly totaled five goals and an assists, and Brenna Duffy added five assists for C-NS, which was set to play Webster Thomas (N.Y.) on Monday. Games against Liverpool (N.Y.) and West Genesee (N.Y.) also are on the slate this week. Previous: 8

8. Wantagh (N.Y.), 5-1

The Warriors went 2-0 last week. Wantagh topped Oceanside (N.Y.), 9-8, and then defeated Syosset (N.Y.), 6-4. Emma Lemanski totaled 18 saves and Megan Gordon added four goals and four assists in the two wins. The Warriors have a difficult week with games against Syosset (N.Y.), Christian Brothers Academy (N.Y.), and Ridgewood (N.J.). Previous: 9

9. Bayport-Blue Point (N.Y.), 4-1

The Phantoms move into the regional rankings for the first time this season, despite being idle last week. After dropping a 7-6 decision to Bridgewater-Raritan (N.J.), the B-BP has won two straight, topping Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.), 11-10, and Miller Place (N.Y.), 13-5, earlier this month. Games against Mt. Sinai (N.Y.), Hampton Bays (N.Y.) and Darien (Conn.) loom this week. Previous: NR

10. Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.), 6-3

The Seahawks dropped a 12-9 decision to Sacred Heart Academy (N.Y.) and fall three spots in the rankings. Kennedy Slater netted two goals and three assists in the loss. CSH faces North Shore (N.Y.) and Summit (N.J.) this week. Previous: 7

1. McDonogh (Md.), 12-0

The Eagles’ winning streak has now passed the eight-year mark after they beat St. Mary’s (Md.), 19-3, on Wednesday for their 167th consecutive victory. Andie Aldave (Notre Dame) paced a balanced offensive effort with two goals and two assists. The challenges left on the schedule include Notre Dame Prep (Md.) and Marriotts Ridge (Md.). Previous: 1

2. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Va.), 14-0

The Saints continue to overwhelm opponents with a deep and unselfish attack. They pounded defending Virginia public school champ Robinson, 20-8, on last April 11 before dropping Manhasset (N.Y.), 18-9, on Thursday. Elena Ricci (Connecticut) piled up two goals and six assists in the second one. Expect a tighter finish with ISL rival Georgetown Visitation (D.C.) on Tuesday. Previous: 2

3. Ridgewood (N.J.), 7-0

The Maroons survived a challenge from then-No. 15 Agnes Irwin (Pa.) on Saturday to stay perfect. Hannah Cermack scored in overtime for a 7-6 victory. The Boston College recruit also had three goals and an assist in Thursday’s 16-4 win over Immaculate Heart (N.J.). Previous: 4

4. Glenelg (Md.), 8-0

The Gladiators make a major leap thanks to a sweep at their home tournament on Saturday. Anna Callahan (Duke) had three goals and two assists to pace Glenelg in a 9-7 win over then-national No. 4 Notre Dame Prep (Md.). The Gladiators also powered past defending Maryland 4A-3A champ Dulaney, 17-9, before beating Liberty (Md.) on Monday. Previous: 10

5. Notre Dame Prep (Md.), 11-1

The Blazers suffered their first loss during a busy week. With Caitlynn Mossman (Boston College) powering the offense, they scored quality wins over then-No. 20 Mount Sinai (N.Y.), Maryvale Prep (Md.) and then-No. 13 Marriotts Ridge (Md.). They couldn’t get past Glenelg on Saturday, though. NDP fell behind 4-0 and never managed to catch the host Gladiators. Previous: 3

6. Summit (N.J.), 6-1

The Hilltoppers relied on tremendous defense to post three wins last week. They allowed a combined 17 goals in beating Oak Knoll (N.J.), Morristown (N.J.) and Smithtown West (N.Y.). They haven’t allowed more than seven goals in any game this spring. Katia Carnevale (Lehigh) leads the offense with 18 goals through seven games. Previous: 6

7. Marriotts Ridge (Md.), 6-1

The Mustangs came up short Saturday in an offensive battle with then-No. 4 Notre Dame Prep.  Lily Kennedy’s four goals weren’t enough in a 15-11 loss. They had beaten Dulaney, 15-12, earlier in the day. On Friday, they get a much-anticipated showdown with rival Glenelg. Previous: 7

8. Bridgewater Raritan (N.J.) 6-0

The Panthers have aced every test so far in their push for a second straight unbeaten regular season. Last week, they beat then-No. 22 Moorestown (N.J.), 14-8, on Wednesday and Watchung Hills (N.J), 17-7, on Saturday. Ally Mastroianni continued her strong start with six points in each victory. 9. Agnes Irwin (Pa.), 6-2

The Owls nearly turned a good week into a great one, but their bid to upset Ridgewood on Saturday fell short in a 7-6 overtime loss. They did grab a 17-9 win over a solid Manheim Township (Pa.) club Wednesday. Lila Barker (Virginia) netted her 200th career goal in that one. Previous: 9

10.  Good Counsel (Md.), 10-3

After a successful spring break trip to New York, the Falcons stumbled Thursday with a 15-12 loss to Severna Park (Md.). They rebounded Saturday with a 19-8 win over Broadneck (Md.), a victory that should send them into Wednesday’s matchup with WCAC rival Bishop Ireton (Va.) feeling good. Previous: 5

South Top 10

1. Vero Beach (Fla.), 17-2

Vero Beach rolled on with a 17-1 win over Sebastian River in a first-round state play-in game. Presley Wakeland led the Fighting Indians with three goals, four groundballs and two caused turnovers. They play Benjamin on Tuesday in the second round. Benjamin beat Cardinal Newman 13-11. Vero Beach is trying to regain the state title lost last year when its string of 10 consecutive state championships was ended in the finals.  Previous: 1 

2. Hutchison (Tenn.), 13-0

The Sting remained unbeaten with wins over Holy Cross (Md.) and Houston (Tenn.). Coach David Gearhardt called the 18-17 win over Holy Cross the “toughest game of the season,” but it didn’t seem to wear on his players, as they followed with a 22-8 win over Houston. Griffin Gearhardt led with 15 goals in the two games. Previous: 2 

3. Milton (Ga.), 10-3

What a week for the Eagles, who returned from an eight-day layoff to collect a huge 12-6 win over Conestoga (Pa.), ranked No. 21 in the country at the time. Milton held a narrow 3-2 lead at the half, committed three consecutive turnovers to give it up, but then scored eight straight goals to take an 11-4 lead. Lexi Morton had five goals in the win, and Sophie Baez three. Bridget Deehan had 14 saves. The Eagles finished the week with a 13-7 win over Chattahoochee (Ga.). They trailed 7-6 at the half, but scored seven straight for the win, which Deehan preserved with nine saves. The Eagles, winners of five straight against outstanding competition, play four games this week against West Forsyth (Ga.), Sacred Heart (N.Y.), Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.) and Bishop Ironton (Va.). 4. American Heritage-Delray (Fla.), 18-0

The Stallions advanced to the second round of the FHSAA state play-ins with a 19-2 win over King’s Academy. They will face Pinecrest (Fla.) on Tuesday for a chance to move to the third round, which is the regional championship game. They beat Pinecrest 14-6 on March 2. Previous: 5  

5. North Gwinnett (Ga.), 14-1

The Bulldogs returned from spring break with a 24-4 win over Collins Hill (Ga.), but suffered their first loss of the season two days later, an 11-10 setback against Northview (Ga.). Haley Gorke and Parker Nevels each scored three goals for North Gwinnett. The Bulldogs have another challenging game Tuesday against Cambridge (Ga.). Previous: 4  

6. Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.), 13-1

The Crusaders rolled on with in-state wins against East Chapel Hill and Harrington. They take a swing through Georgia this week with games against Chattahoochee and Milton. The match-up against Milton could be one of the best in the South region this season. Gibbons has won six straight since its 29-game win streak ended in March. Previous: 6  

7. St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.), 16-1

The Raiders beat Cooper City (Fla.) 16-4 in the first-round of the state play-ins. That sets up a second-round game with Ransom Everglades (20-2) on Tuesday. The teams have not met previously, but they do have one common opponent. St. Thomas beat Pinecrest 14-9. Pinecrest beat Ransom 20-7. Previous: 7  

8. Lassiter (Ga.), 12-3

The Trojans returned from spring break with one of their toughest opponents of the season and couldn’t pull off the upset, losing 12-4 to Conestoga (Pa.), which was ranked No. 21 nationally last week. They rebounded with a 22-0 win over Woodstock (Ga.) and now face a showdown with Walton (Ga.) on Saturday. Previous: 8   

9. Blessed Trinity (Ga.), 11-3

The Titans move into the rankings, despite being idle last week, based on earlier wins against formerly-ranked Walton (Ga.), as well as Mill Creek, which is having a strong year. The Titans return to action this week after spring break. Previous: NR

10. Episcopal Dallas (Texas), 12-1

The Eagles finished the regular season with their first loss, a 14-10 defeat against Radnor, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state runner-up last spring. Previous: 10

Midwest Top 10

1. Upper Arlington (Ohio), 7-2

A week after defeating then top-ranked Loyola Academy (Ill.), the Golden Bears followed with a 21-0 shutout over Marysville (Ohio) on April 11 and a 22-1 win over Pickerington North (Ohio) on Thursday. Brenna Smith had five goals against Marysville, followed by two goals and four assists against Pickerington North. Previous: 1

2. Loyola Academy (Ill.), 9-2

Loyola has been off since being upset by Upper Arlington (Ohio) on April 8. The Ramblers return to action on April 19 as part of a five-game trip to Colorado. Previous: 2

3. Rockford (Mich.), 3-1

The Rams showed no signs of rust after a two-week hiatus in their 17-2 win over Grand Rapids Christian (Mich.) on Wednesday. Rockford outshot Grand Rapids 38-4, and Brooklyn Neumen led the way with four goals and an assist. Previous: 3

4. Massillon Jackson (Ohio), 10-0

Liz Davide, a future Butler Bulldog, led the way with 10 goals last week in a trio of wins for the Polar Bears. Jackson started the week with a 13-3 win over Cleveland Heights (Ohio), followed by a 15-5 win over Hudson (Ohio) and a 15-2 win over Shaker Heights (Ohio). Previous: 5

5. Noblesville (Ind.), 6-0

The Millers remained unbeaten after a 17-5 win over Bishop Chatard (Ind.) on Wednesday. Noblesville has a big test Tuesday against fellow unbeaten squad Hamilton Southeastern (Ind.). Previous: 4

6. New Albany (Ohio), 7-1

After Massillon Jackson handed the Eagles their first loss of the season, New Albany soared last week with three wins. The week started with blowout wins over Olentangy Orange (Ohio) and Westerville North (Ohio) before New Albany eked out a 9-8 victory over previously unbeaten Indian Hill (Ohio). Gracie Pine played a huge role in New Albany’s win over Indian Hill, contributing four goals. Previous: 6

7. New Trier (Ill.), 8-1

New Trier won its fourth in a row with a 13-9 victory over Montini Catholic (Ill.) on Wednesday. Last week’s regional player of the week Katherine Gjertsen had two goals and an assist, as New Trier used a balanced scoring attack over Montini. Previous: 7

8. Eden Prairie (Minn.), 0-0

The long wait of winter is finally over as Eden Prairie kicks off its season Tuesday versus Wayzata (Minn.). Previous: 8

9. Blake (Minn.), 0-0

Like Eden Prairie, Blake has had to wait for the start of action in Minnesota. Blake’s season finally gets underway on Thursday versus Holy Family Catholic (Minn.). Previous: 9

10. East Grand Rapids (Mich.) 6-0

The Pioneers won a trio of matches on Saturday to remain undefeated. Their biggest win of the day came against previous unbeaten Cranbrook Kingswood (Mich.). East Grand Rapids also pulled out blowout wins over Grosse Point South (Mich.) and Birmingham United (Mich.). Previous: 10

1. Torrey Pines (Calif.), 14-0

The Falcons enjoyed a well-deserved break last week, coming off an impressive win over Mater Dei (Calif.) on April 7. They resume play Tuesday against La Costa Canyon (Calif.) and have to get through five more games to complete an undefeated regular-season. Previous: 1

2. Novato (Calif.), 14-1

A trip north proved beneficial to the Hornets, as they shook off their first loss in 43 games -- a one-goal upset by Davis (Calif.) -- with a trio of wins in Oregon. Novato outscored their opponents 59-15 during the trip including a notable 19-6 win over West-ranked Lake Oswego (Ore.). Charlie Rudy led the team with 10 goals, while adding three assists, against Oswego. Previous: 2    

3. Colorado Academy (Colo.), 6-1

The Mustangs experienced their first close game this season (even their loss to Novato was a blowout), but survived the test with an 11-10 win over Kent Denver (Colo.). Sloane Murphy paced Colorado with five goals on six shots, and Bridget Sutter collected 10 saves to preserve the win. Previous: 3

4. St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.) 6-4

Coach Amy Harms is hoping the two-week break from action brings her team back refreshed and ready to go after a tough stretch that resulted in four losses in five games. They look to shake off a one-goal loss to Carondelet (Calif.) as they head into another difficult portion in the schedule. Games against Midwest powerhouse Loyola Academy (Ill.) and Colorado Academy loom Friday. Previous: 4

5. Mater Dei (Calif.), 10-2

The Monarchs didn’t let their April 7 loss to Torrey Pines hang over them, as they responded with a 19-7 win over Los Alamitos (Calif.) on April 11 in their only game last week. Madeline Hooks led the way with six goals, four assists and five groundballs. Coming off an eight-day layoff, Mater Dei gets a shot at Novato on Wednesday. Previous: 5 

6. California High (Calif.), 11-1

The Grizzlies went 2-0 last week but received a scare from Dougherty Valley (Calif.) in a 10-9 decision. Isabella McHugh came up big for California, finishing with five goals and one assist, and Marissa Leonardi added two goals and three assists. The Grizzlies meet Mater Dei on Thursday. Previous: 8  

7. Issaquah (Wash.), 7-0

The Eagles return from a 12-day layoff Wednesday when they travel to Lake Sam West (Wash.), but the big test comes Friday at home against also unbeaten Bainbridge Island (Wash.). Bainbridge won 17-11 last year as part of a 13-0 start to the season. Previous: 7 

8. Lake Oswego (Ore.), 9-2

The Lakers added a pair of lopsided in-state wins last week before falling to Novato, 19-6. Carlie Leach had six goals on seven shots in a 14-2 win over St. Mary’s Academy (Ore.) and tallied three goals and one assist, along with Katie Gilbert, in an 18-3 victory over Lakeridge (Ore.). A date with rival West Linn looms April 24. Previous: 6 

9. Poway (Calif.), 13-1

The Titans went 3-0 last week, beating three quality opponents by 11 goals or more on the road. They handed Chaminade College Prep (Calif.) just its second loss, 19-8, on Wednesday, topped Oak Park 15-3 on Friday and finished the week with a 16-4 win at Palos Verdes (Calif.). Isabelle Flud had five goals and three assists against Chaminade and Camdyn O’Donnell added four goals and four assists. Previous: 9

10. Cherry Creek (Colo.), 6-1

The Bruins return to the rankings after a couple dominating performances last week, as they outscored Mullen (Colo.) and Chatfield (Colo.) 44-7. Hope Adams had 11 goals over the two games, and Pearl Schwartz had eight goals and two assists. Previous: NR
