Gettysburg defeated another ranked challenger last week to improve to 5-0 and remain No. 1 in this week’s Nike/US Lacrosse Division III Women’s Top 20, but the rest of the top five has a slightly fresh look thanks to some intriguing results.

The Bullets dispatched then-No. 15 Ithaca, 20-9, in a neutral-site game Thursday, marking their second consecutive win over a ranked foe. They get another one Wednesday, as No. 8 York heads west on Route 30 for a non-conference matchup.

More games for NESCAC teams continue to influence the rankings, as Tufts improved to No. 2 by sending then-No. 3 Colby tumbling, 15-8. Wesleyan slipped to No. 4 after a narrow loss to then-No. 12 Middlebury. No. 5 Amherst had its way with then-No. 11 TCNJ, 11-6.

All the while, Franklin and Marshall reeled off its fifth straight win (four of which against ranked opponents), dropping Bowdoin out of the rankings in Florida. The No. 3 Diplomats travel to our nation’s capital for a non-league game against No. 17 Catholic, which last week rebounded from a loss to powerful Wesleyan by avenging last season’s loss to Cortland.

HOT

St. John Fisher (+3)

The Cardinals’ 2-0 week including a win over then-No. 18 William Smith, and they’re an overtime loss to York away from a 5-0 start. Junior attacker Mallory Eymer scored four goals in the nip-and-tuck win over the Herons, which was clinched with 0:34 on the clock when Sydney DeGirolamo fed Mary Grace Doyle. Those three top the Cards in points, and DeGirolamo has controlled 24 draws to date.

NOT

Colby (-8)

The Mules trailed Tufts, 4-3, 12 minutes into their showdown Saturday, but they managed just one more goal the rest of the half as the Jumbos took control, 10-4. Previously stout goalie Izzy Scribano was chased, ultimately surrendering 11 goals on 17 shots faced. Colby’s March 10 game at Southern Maine was postponed, but it nonetheless continues a lengthy road trip Saturday at Connecticut College.

IN

Catholic (No. 17)

The Cardinals struggled against then-No. 2 Wesleyan after a 3-3 tie, falling behind 12-4 in an eventual six-goal defeat Tuesday at Tierney Field in Sparks, Md. Facing then-No. 14 Cortland in another neutral-site game Saturday, they trailed at the half, 6-5, before turning to freshman Rachel Searle in goal. She proved more than capable, and Anna Maupin scored three of her five goals in the second half to fuel an important, 14-12 win for Catholic. The No. 17 Cardinals will need more of the same to ring in their new Carlini Field with a win against No. 3 F&M.

Scranton (No. 20)

The Royals are off to a 4-1 start, rebounding from a two-goal loss to then-No. 14 Ithaca with a convincing, 14-6 road win at Christopher Newport last week. Sophomores Jill Henson and Raegan Dunn have formed an effective one-two punch at attack, combining for 23 goals and 18 assists. No. 20 Scranton must take advantage of a three-game homestand that begins Wednesday against Marywood.

OUT

Bowdoin (previously No. 16)

After a season-opening win, the Polar Bears have lost three straight against a tough slate that included ranked Amherst and F&M. It hasn’t helped that they have yet to play a true home game, and they visit the University of New England Wednesday.

Haverford (previously No. 18)

The Fords dropped to 5-2 after a 1-1 trip to Florida. They can get back on track Saturday, following a nine-day break, with a Centennial Conference game at home against McDaniel.
