Georgia and Utah Valley hold the No. 1 spots in the WCLA Division I and II coaches’ polls, respectively, announced on Wednesday.
An incredibly light Division I schedule during the past week, with just one game that involved a Top 20 team, yielded no changes in this week’s ranking. Undefeated Georgia (10-0) lays claim to the top spot for the third straight week.
In Division II, last week’s No. 2 Utah Valley leapfrogged over idle Loyola Club to re-claim the No. 1 spot that it had three weeks ago. Interestingly, UVU lost its only game of the past week, a narrow 16-13 setback against Division I powerhouse BYU, but evidently impressed voters in defeat.
Loyola is No. 2, with UC San Diego, St. Thomas and Grand Valley State Club rounding out the top five in the same spots they occupied last week.
There were two newcomers into the top 10, with UC Santa Cruz moving up three spots this week to ninth and previously unranked University of Portland debuting at No. 10. The Pilots improved to 5-1 overall with three victories during the week, including a 10-9 win over No. 7 Portland State.
