IWCLA third-team All-American Gabby Rosenzweig told US Lacrosse Magazine on Monday that she will transfer to Duke, pending admission. Rosenzweig is utilizing the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the shortened 2020 season.

Rosenzweig said last week that Penn had been willing to work with spring student-athletes, but her situation required that she either do another full year of undergrad or transfer. Penn does not allow students to be part-time twice, and she was part-time this semester.

"Due to my inability to make it work both academically and athletically at Penn, I have verbally committed to Coach [Kerstin] Kimel and her squad at Duke, pending admission," she said. "Duke provided me a great opportunity to fulfill my academic goals. I am so thrilled and grateful to be playing another year of lacrosse with a balanced and strong attack, and I believe I'm joining a team that aligns with my values as a person."

One of Penn’s all-time leaders in many offensive categories, Rosenzweig had 11 goals and 11 assists during Penn’s 4-1 start to 2020. Her final game in 2020 came against Loyola and her younger sister, Livy, playing against her in a game that counts for the first time in their lives.

Rosenzweig is Penn’s all-time points leader (247), including the highest total in a single season (98). Her 121 goals rank sixth in Penn history. She needed just two more assists to break the program’s assist mark.

"Penn lacrosse has meant the absolute world to me," she said. "I am the person and player I am today because of the coaches, who endlessly believed in me and pushed me, putting hours into my development as a leader and lacrosse player ... I could go on and on about what it means to me to have worn the red and blue and have been a part of something so special."
