Gabby Rosenzweig, an IWLCA third-team All-American in 2019, has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

The attacker told US Lacrosse Magazine Thursday morning that although Penn has shown a willingness to work with senior student-athletes so they can be eligible for the 2021 season, her circumstances prevent a return to the university.

She said Penn had been accommodating seniors given the circumstances, but she wouldn’t be able to compete as a grad student and can’t be a part-time student twice.

Rosenzweig said the rule regarding graduate students being unable to participate in athletics is still in place. University rules also prevent students from being part-time twice. Because Rosenzweig was a part-time student this semester, she’d have to do another full year of undergrad to be eligible to compete. Rosenzweig said Penn did not take the option to withdraw away from seniors.

Other Ivy League universities like Yale and Princeton have held firm, not allowing seniors to return for another season by withdrawing. As a result, Ivy League stars like Michael Sowers (Princeton) and Jackson Morrill (Yale) have entered the transfer portal, and TD Ierlan (Yale) is contemplating whether or not to continue his collegiate career.

One of Penn’s all-time leaders in many offensive categories, Rosenzweig had 11 goals and 11 assists during Penn’s 4-1 start to 2020. Her final game in 2020 came against Loyola and her younger sister, Livy, playing against her in a game that counts for the first time in their lives.

Rosenzweig is Penn’s all-time points leader (247), including the highest total in a single season (98). Her 121 goals rank sixth in Penn history. She needed just two more assists to break the program’s assist mark.
