After significant social media buzz over the past week, the Premier Lacrosse League ushered in the next wave of professional stars in Wednesday night’s broadcast of the PLL College Draft.

With the No. 1 pick, Archers LC selected Penn State attackman Grant Ament. Ament holds the NCAA single-season assists record (96), making him a weapon at X for Archers.

Bryan Costabile was selected second overall by Atlas LC after announcing last week that he won’t return to Notre Dame for an extra year of eligibility. He ranks ninth in Notre Dame history in goals (99) and has the best shooting range of anyone in the draft, according to PLL Stats’ Joe Keegan.

Michael Kraus (Waterdogs), Tom Rigney (Chrome), Matt Gaudet (Chaos), Peyton Smith (Redwoods) and Sean New (Whipsnakes) were the remaining first-round picks.

Delaware goalkeeper Matt DeLuca went to the Waterdogs with the No. 8 pick, giving Charlie Cipriano competition in the cage. Though this summer’s 20-game, 16-day tournament could warrant having multiple competent goalies on hand.

Perhaps the most interesting pick of the draft is Chaos LC’s selection of Jeff Teat at No. 12 overall. Cornell, unlike other Ivy League institutions, has yet to comment on plans for its current seniors. Similarly, Teat has yet to definitively indicate his plans for 2021. If Cornell allows Teat to return and he chooses to do so, Teat would be re-entered into the 2021 draft pool.

"He's not definitely going back [to Cornell]," Chaos LC coach Andy Towers said during the draft, indicating that this could be the steal of the draft.

Eight players selected in the draft were also selected in the Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft last week — Kraus, Rigney, Gaudet, Smith, New, Reece Eddy, Aidan Hynes and Teat. None have been announced as MLL signees as of yet.
