Erin Coykendall and Jill Girardi scored five goals apiece to lead No. 3 Northwestern to a 17-6 win at Penn State on Friday.

Coykendall added two assists and Girardi pulled down 13 draw controls, as the Wildcats (9-2, 3-0 Big Ten) outdrew the Nittany Lions 21-3.

Northwestern led from start to finish. Penn State (5-5, 0-2) put just 15 of its 25 shots on goal. Taylor Regan’s buzzer-beater at the end of the second quarter to make it 10-4 did not provide the needed momentum. The Wildcats scored the first two goals of the third quarter and soon made it running time by holding at least a 10-goal advantage for the last 23 minutes of the game.

Northwestern will remain in Pennsylvania to play at Penn on Sunday.

SEAWOLVES SLAM SUN DEVILS

Stony Brook keeps rolling.

The sixth-ranked Seawolves won their sixth straight game Friday, routing Arizona State 16-4 at LaValle Stadium. Ellie Masera had five goals and 11 draw controls, Kailyn Hart added four goals and two assists and Stony Brook’s suffocating defense limited the Sun Devils to just 10 shots on goal (16 total).

The Seawolves (8-2) have outscored their six opponents by a combined 89-30 margin during the winning streak. They resume America East play Sunday against Binghamton.
