Abigail Rehfuss, a former All-American midfielder at Loyola and professional player for the United Women’s Lacrosse League’s Philadelphia Force, has been hired as the new head coach at Siena, the university announced Monday. Rehfuss replaces Bryana Borrelli, who went 18-33 in three seasons at the helm.
Rehfuss, who graduated from Loyola in 2011, started her coaching career as an assistant at Division III Roger Williams in 2012 before moving to the high school ranks, most recently leading the Shaker (N.Y.) girls’ lacrosse team to a 23-10 record over the last two seasons. She was named the 2016 Times Union Coach of the Year after guiding her alma mater to the Section II Class A title. Rehfuss also has served as a head coach of the Albany Elite Lacrosse Club since 2012.
As a collegiate player, Rehfuss amassed 177 career points and ranks fourth all-time in Loyola history with 153 draw controls. She’s originally from Latham, N.Y.
Rehfuss received her B.A. in Interdisciplinary Writing & Philosophy from Loyola in 2011, and her J.D. from Albany Law School in 2014. She has served as an attorney at The Rehfuss Law Firm, P.C., since 2015. Rehfuss was inducted into the Shaker High School Hall of Fame in 2015.
“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to join the Siena family,” Rehfuss said in a press release issued by the university. “Being from Latham, I’ve both followed and been a supporter of Siena athletics my entire life. I’m eager to get started.”
