Your favorite former-laxers-turned-pros-in-other-sports largely found success this past weekend, with Tom Kennedy drawing a start at wide receiver for the Detroit Lions and Pat Spencer playing well in 20 minutes for the Golden State Warriors. Jared Bernhardt, who was active each of the first three weeks for the Falcons, was inactive in Week 4.

Here’s how they performed on Sunday.

TOM KENNEDY

The former Bryant midfielder who was drafted in 2018 by the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse started for the Lions on Sunday with two of the team’s top receivers — DJ Chark and Amon-Ra St. Brown — out with injuries. Elevated from the practice squad before the game, Kennedy performed well in his first NFL start, making three catches for 54 yards in a 48-45 loss to the Seahawks. He was third on the team in receiving yards and tied for third in targets (five, Kalif Raymond).

It remains to be seen if Chark (ankle) or St. Brown (ankle) will miss more time. The Lions play the Patriots in Week 5, and if either top receiver is out, Kennedy could find more playing time.

PAT SPENCER

Spencer, signed to an Exhibit 10 deal with the NBA champion Warriors for training camp, got into his first preseason game against the Wizards in Tokyo and was productive in 12 minutes. The former Tewaaraton Award winner did not attempt a field goal, but he was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line and recorded three rebounds (one offensive) and three assists.

The 6-3 guard appears to be on the outside looking in of a roster spot for Golden State, but showings like this one could help him land in the G-League or with another organization.

JARED BERNHARDT

The all-time Maryland great and 2021 Tewaaraton Award winner was inactive for the first time in his short NFL career in Week 4. He played two snaps in Week 2 and seven snaps in Week 3 before the inactive designation on Sunday. Falcons head coach Arthur Smith praised Bernhardt and other young players for their effort early this season (via The Atlanta Journal-Constitution): “I’ve been pleased with a lot of those young guys,” Smith said. “Tyler (Allgeier), Bernie (Jared Bernhardt), Frank Darby. ... We’ve got so many young guys that are stepping up.”
