NJIT announced Friday it has hired Eric Wolf as its next head men’s lacrosse coach, confirming earlier reports by Turner Sports’ Chris Jastrzembski, Inside Lacrosse’s Matt Kinnear and Lacrosse Bucket’s Tanner Demling.

Wolf spent the last five seasons as the head coach at LIU, guiding the Pioneers in their transition from Division II to Division I. The Sharks compiled a combined 13-13 record and posted winning marks in the Northeast Conference the last two seasons, qualifying for the postseason conference tournament both years.

Among the highlights this year: wins over Hofstra and Mount St. Mary’s and a narrow 11-10 loss to nationally ranked Saint Joseph’s in the NEC semifinals, as a late LIU comeback came one goal short.

Wolf developed a pair of stars in attackman Richie LaCalandria and goalie Will Mark, the two-time conference offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively.

Wolf had prior stops as an assistant at Harvard, Albany and Siena. He’s familiar with the America East, having played at Albany before coaching at his alma mater.

NJIT moved on from previous head coach Travis Johnson after a winless season in which the Highlanders finished 0-13. NJIT posted a 7-97 record in eight seasons under Johnson, who led the team since its inception in 2015.

Wolf’s departure creates another Division I vacancy at LIU.

Bryant (Brad Ross), Manhattan (John Odierna),UMass Lowell (Drew Kelleher), Providence (Bobby Benson) and St. John’s (Justin Turri) will be under new leadership next season.
