The Epoch/US Lacrosse Players of the Week are named each Tuesday to recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’  and girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast (begins next week), Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage. Make it Epoch. 

Northeast

Kaitlyn Dowsett, Eastport-South Manor (N.Y.)

Dowsett netted her fifth goal of the game with six minutes remaining to snap a 9-9 tie and lead the Sharks to a 10-9 win over Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.). She also totaled three goals and six assists in a 16-3 win over Babylon (N.Y.) last week and has a total of 23 goals and 29 assists this season. The senior attacker is headed to Siena.

Mid-Atlantic

Scottie Rose Growney, Conestoga (Pa.)

The senior midfielder did a little bit of everything in leading the defending PIAA champions to three wins last week. Growney posted four goals, three assists and seven draw controls in an 18-8 victory over Ridley (Pa.) on April 25. The UNC recruit then had six goals, an assist and seven draw controls Thursday to help the Pioneers fend off Garnet Valley (Pa.), 13-11. On Saturday, she came up with a goal and two assists as they took a defensive battle with Bishop Shanahan, 6-4, to improve to 13-1 on the season.

South

Abby Spalding, Bishop Moore (Fla.)

With 13.5 seconds left in the second overtime, Spalding delivered the shot that gave Bishop Moore its first state championship. The Hornets beat St. Thomas Aquinas 13-12 to take the title, as Spalding, one of 12 seniors in the lineup, scored three goals. The attacker also had three goals in the semifinal win over Ponte Vedra (Fla.), and she finished the season with 65 and 33 assists.

Anna Santulli, Hinsdale Central (Ill.)

Santulli is coming off a week where she scored 12 goals and added five assists in two games for Hinsdale Central. She scored six goals and two assists against Glenbrook South (Ill.), followed by a six-goal, three-assist effort against Lake Forest two days later. Santulli is committed to Stanford University.

Sydney Furman, California High (Calif.)

The sophomore goalie splits time in the cage but her second-half performance against Amador Valley (Calif.) last week proved crucial. She made five saves in her 25 minutes, including a last-second stop, to preserve a 13-12 win as California came back from a 5-4 halftime deficit. She owns a 7.7 goals against average this season.
