The Epoch/US Lacrosse Players of the Week are named each Tuesday to recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’  and girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast (begins next week), Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage. Make it Epoch. 

Northeast

Lauren Gilbert, Cicero-North Syracuse (N.Y.)

The senior goalie stopped 16 shots to lead C-NS to an important 8-6 win over West Genesee (N.Y.). She recorded a .727 save percentage to preserve the win. Gilbert signed to play Division I lacrosse at Canisius.

Mid-Atlantic

Kayla Duperrouzel, Bishop Ireton (Va.)

With her play at the draw circle and around the net, the senior midfielder paced the Cardinals to three hard-earned wins last week. On Saturday, Duperrouzel scored in the third overtime to beat Southern power Milton (Ga.), 9-8. The Yale recruit also had three goals in a 16-7 win over then-No. 19 Good Counsel (Md.) and a goal and two assists in a 17-9 victory over Sacred Heart Academy (N.Y.).

South

Emma Grace Wisdom, Lassiter (Ga.)

The senior scored five goals to help her team beat rival and defending state champion Walton (Ga.) 9-7 and win the Area 4 title. Wisdom put Lassiter up 4-3 with 7:06 left in the first half, its first lead of the game. Walton tied it several times from there, but never led again. Wisdom also had two groundballs and two caused turnovers in the win, which gave Lassiter the top seed in its region.

Midwest

Brennan Dwyer, Loyola Academy (Ill.)

Dwyer tallied impressive numbers against challenging competition last week in Loyola Academy’s four-day, five-game trip to Colorado. Dwyer notched 22 goals, added 14 helpers and won 51 draws, leading Loyola to a 5-0 week. Her best performance came against St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.), as she scored seven times and had two assists. Dwyer is committed to play at Northwestern University.

Sophia Hagstromer, Bainbridge Island (Wash.)

The senior attacker had a hand in 11 of her team’s goals as the Spartans breezed past then-No. 7 Issaquah (Wash.), 17-7, on Friday. Hagstromer, a first-team all-conference player last year, had six goals and five assists to power Bainbridge to its eighth straight win to open the season. She already has 40 goals and 26 assists, but the Issaquah game was her highest point total of the year.
