The Epoch/US Lacrosse Players of the Week are named each Tuesday to recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’  and girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage. Make it Epoch. 

Northeast

Michael Giaquinto, Ward Melville (N.Y.)

Giaquinto won 16 of 21 faceoffs to help the Patriots dictate tempo and possession in a 12-11 win over Smithtown East (N.Y.). The junior face-off specialist is committed to Penn State.

Joey Epstein, Landon (Md.)

The junior attackman continues to power the nation’s top-ranked squad. Epstein posted four goals and four assists Friday to help the Bears knock off IAC rival Georgetown Prep (Md.), 13-7. The Johns Hopkins recruit also scored six times in Sunday’s 10-8 win over Gonzaga (D.C.). He has totaled 59 goals and 39 assists for Landon, which is 17-0.

Jimmy Harrington, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla)

Harrington scored three goals to help the Raiders beat Lake Highland Prep (Fla.) and win their second consecutive state championship. In the semifinal win over Benjamin, the senior scored a huge goal after the Bucs closed a five-goal gap down to 8-7, finishing a fast break off a recovered groundball when he took a pass from Kevin Crowley and scored. St. Thomas went on to win 14-11, and Harrington had two goals in that game. He finished the season with 72 goals, 15 assists and 32 groundballs.

Hub Hejna, East Grand Rapids (Mich.)

After receiving an honorable mention last week, Hejna had an incredible week, highlighted by a five-goal, seven-assist performance versus Cranbrook (Mich.) on Saturday. That is on top of a four-goal effort versus Spring Lake (Mich.) on April 25. Hejna has earned a hat trick in four straight games, including an eight-goal performance two weeks ago.

Makail Fraboni, Torrey Pines (Calif.)

The junior goalie came through for the Falcons in a close game against San Diego Section rival La Costa Canyon (Calif.) on Friday. He registered 15 saves to preserve a 9-7 win against the then-No. 2 Mavericks. The Navy commit also posted seven saves in a 12-5 win over Carlsbad (Calif.) on Saturday to finish off a strong week for Torrey Pines.
