The Epoch/US Lacrosse Players of the Week are named each Tuesday to recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’  and girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast (begins next week), Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage. Make it Epoch. 

Northeast

Kevin Lindley, Darien (Conn.)

Lindley scored a career-high nine goals to lead top-ranked Darien (Conn.) to a 17-9 win over Niskayuna (N.Y.). The Loyola recruit scored five goals on five first-half shots and added four more in the second half. Lindley totaled seven goals and two assists in a 20-16 win over the Silver Warriors last season.

T.J. Malone, Haverford School (Pa.)

The junior attackman is making the most of his first season of varsity action. Malone racked up 10 goals and seven assists in three wins last week, two of them over nationally ranked competition. His remarkable run included a career-high five goals in a Friday upset of then-No. 9 Malvern Prep (Pa.) and a career-high five assists in Saturday’s win over Strath Haven (Pa.).

Reid Smith, Ponte Vedra (Fla.)

The senior attackman scored five goals and added two assists in Ponte Vedra’s 24-7 win against Bartram Trail in the district semifinals. In the championship game, a 21-3 win over Nease, he led the team with another five goals and two assists. The seven points put Smith over 300 for his career. He now has 304, which is a school record. He also broke the school career record for goals in the district championship game. Reid has 180 career goals, breaking the mark of 177 set by Miles Silva.

Jack Mattei, Cathedral (Ind.)

The senior middie has played a huge role in Cathedral’s six-game winning streak. Perhaps most notably, Mattei five of Cathedral’s 12 goals in last week’s win over Montgomery Bell Academy (Tenn.). He is headed to Dartmouth in the fall.

Jered Kenny, San Ramon Valley (Calif.)

The freshman came up big for the Wolves as their offense slowed after taking a 6-0 halftime lead against then-No. 1 Torrey Pines (Calif.). He scored both of his team’s second-half goals and came through with the game-winner in overtime to lift SRV to the 8-7 upset win.
