Two games in the Division III women’s tournament Sunday went to overtime, but there were no major upsets on the day.

Salisbury is seeking to repeat as the national champion and remains alive after a dominant win over Stevens in the second round. The Sea Gulls next face Kenyon, which collected a thrilling win over Rhodes to advance.

Sixth-ranked Gettysburg had some trouble getting past Roanoke but pulled out a win in overtime, and Denison beat Catholic in the other game that required an extra period. Let’s recap how everything else went down.

MIDDLEBURY 22, SUNY GENESEO 6

The Panthers cruised past Geneseo in the second round and are now set to host a four-team regional next weekend.

Middlebury (18-1) led 9-5 at halftime but really surged with an eight-goal third quarter. Maggie Coughlin led all players with a career-high eight points on four goals and four assists, while Jane Earley scored a game-high six goals and added six draw controls and Hope Shue also had four goals.

The Knights (15-4) were making their first appearance in the tournament since 2014 and just their third overall. Hannah Marafioti scored three goals and added an assist to lead Geneseo’s offense.

CHICAGO 19, CAPITAL 14

Previously unbeaten Capital made it a one-goal game in the third quarter, but Chicago responded with eight straight goals to take a 19-10 lead with 6:09 left and held on for the win.

The Maroons (18-1) were led by Lulu Hardy’s four goals and one assist. Anneke Pulkkinen added four goals as well, and Jane Chen had a team-high six points on one goal and five assists. Rachel Keefe had 11 saves. Capital’s Bee Kuehn also made 11 saves, and Brooke Delara had a game-high eight points with five goals and three assists to lead the Comets attack. Capital finishes 20-1.

TCNJ 20, ST. MARY’S (MD.) 12

The Lions’ offense exploded in the first quarter, and that set the tone for the game, as TCNJ (16-2) rolled to a 20-12 win in the second round.

Jennifer LaRocca scored five goals and added three assists to break the program’s single-season points record. In the process, she registered the 200th point of her career. Ally Tobler registered six goals, and Anna Wright added all four of her goals in the first quarter, as the Lions roared to a 6-0 lead. Julia Charest made nine saves.

St. Mary’s (13-6), coming off its first NCAA tournament victory since 2008, got hat tricks from Lucy Gussio and Hailey Betch. Gussio finished with seven points, and Maddie Clemmer posted nine saves.

SUNY CORTLAND 14, ROGER WILLIAMS 11

The Red Dragons handed Roger Williams just its second loss, ending the Hawks’ season in the second round of the tournament. Cortland (17-4) took a 10-7 lead into halftime. and RWU never got closer than two goals.

Hannah Lorenzen led all scorers with five goals and two assists, and Toni Cashman added two goals and one assists to help Cortland advance. Paige Potter had 11 saves. Mandy Beck (five goals) and Lily Cunningham (four goals) led Roger Williams’ offensively, and Ryleigh Cavanaugh posted a game-high seven draw controls.

COLBY 20, MERCHANT MARINE 4

The Colts (15-3) held Merchant Marine off the board until the fourth quarter and cruised into the third round. They were leading 19-0 before Jessie Wohner scored back-to-back goals to spoil the shutout. 

Anny Eddy scored four goals and added one assist to pace Colby, which also got three goals and five assists from Gianna Bruno and four goals from Ally Franz. Sarah Stark had four ground balls and three caused turnovers, and Hallie Schwartzman contributed six ground balls to lead the defense.

WILLIAM SMITH 17, MESSIAH 10

The Herons took control of the game early, taking a 6-1 lead in the first quarter, and Messiah never drew closer than within three goals from there. William Smith won its 14th straight game to improve to 18-1 and move on to the Round of 16. Allie McGinty paced the Herons’ attack with five goals and one assist, and Molly Davis added three goals and two assists. Maddie Montgomery chipped in two goals and two assists.

Ehryn Groothoff scored a hat trick for Messiah, which finished 13-6.

SALISURY 15, STEVENS 4

The defending national champion Sea Gulls led just 6-2 at halftime but took off in the second half to put Stevens away and advance to the regional round. Lydia McNulty and Emma Skoglund each tallied three goals and one assist, as Salisbury moved to 16-2 overall. Mary Claire Hisle needed just two saves to earn the win in goal.

Lauren Cunniff made 14 saves for Stevens, which ended its season 18-3.

KENYON 15, RHODES 14

The NCAC champions rallied from a three-goal halftime deficit to continue their season after edging Rhodes in the second round to extend the Ladies’ first NCAA tournament appearance since 2010.

Kenyon trailed by one going into the fourth quarter but got three straight goals, including the go-ahead score from Caroline O’Neil and an insurance goal from Blythe Karras with 7:57 left, and that proved to be the decisive tally. With 2:21 left, Baylee Barker put Rhodes back within one, but the Ladies held on for the win.

O’Neil led the Ladies with six goals and one assist, while Mallory Brophy and Ella Murphy added hat tricks. Barker finished with a game-high eight goals for the Lynx, which finished 15-4.

GETTYSBURG 9, ROANOKE 8 (OT)

The Bullets (17-3) earned their 11th straight win but needed a fourth-quarter comeback and overtime to keep their season alive, edging Roanoke 9-8 to advance to the Round of 16.

With Roanoke leading by two, Caroline Sullivan and Kelly O’Connor scored goals in the final eight minutes of regulation to send the game to overtime, and Jordan Basso netted the game-winner with 2:40 left in the extra frame. Basso finished with a hat trick, while Katie Fullowan had a team-high four points on two goals and two assists. And O’Connor also had two goals for the game. Jenna Kings’ two assists were on the final two goals.

Bullets goalkeeper Gill Cortese made six saves, but Roanoke (16-5) was led by Emerson Foster, who had a hat trick, and Riley Chase, who tallied two goals and an assist.

DENISON 13, CATHOLIC 12 (OT)

Jane Bailey scored the game-winner with 1:54 left in overtime to help Denison advance after an impressive comeback in the fourth quarter.

Catholic had taken a 10-6 lead into the final period of regulation, and Denison came back with six of the last eight goals, including the last three, to send the game to overtime. Josie Lucchesi scored the final two goals in regulation, tying it with 1:35 left.

Lucchesi finished with four goals to lead all scorers, while Casey McTague added three goals. Kate Olsen and Anna Corona each registered hat tricks for Catholic, which finishes 14-5. Olsen also had three assists.

TUFTS 20, ST. LAWRENCE 5

The NESCAC champion Jumbos are on a roll, securing their ninth straight win in dominant fashion.

Tufts led 9-3 at halftime and exploded in the second half to run away with the victory, including shutting out St. Lawrence in the fourth quarter. Margie Carden scored five goals and added an assist, and Emma Joyce and Anna Clarke each added four goals to pace the attack. Molly Laliberty recorded nine saves in goal.

Raelynn Bovenzi took the loss in goal for St. Lawrence, despite making 10 saves in almost 41 minutes of play. Isabel Silvia had a team-high two goals for the Saints, who finish 16-3.

POMONA PITZER 18, CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS 6

The Sagehens remain unbeaten after they took a 10-2 lead in the first quarter against C-M-S and cruised to their 18th win.

Fiona Lewis paced the attack with six goals and one assist, and Sydny Landauer and Grace Warner each added hat tricks. Olivia Carey and Emma Merk scored two goals each for C-M-S (14-6), as Holly Sankle made 11 saves in 54 minutes after relieving Kendall Chapko in the first quarter. Emma Vomvas had nine saves for Pomona-Pitzer.

WASHINGTON & LEE 21, TRANSYLVANIA 0

The Generals shut out Transylvania and cruised to a 14th straight win. Allie Schwab scored four goals, Walker McKnight added a hat trick, Janie Stillwell assisted on four goals and three goalkeepers combined for the shutout. W&L took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter and led 15-0 at halftime.

Transylvania, which had advanced out of the first round with a thrilling 16-15 win over Washington & Jefferson, got nine saves out of goalkeeper Abi Waldron. This was the Pioneers’ first NCAA tournament appearance.

WESLEYAN 13, YORK 11

York tied the game at 9-all on Jenna Cholowinski’s goal with 9:41 left, but Wesleyan responded with two straight tallies and scored four of the last six goals to put the game away.

Olivia Lai and Kendall Mittleman each scored four goals for the Cardinals (14-4), who advanced despite a rough day in goal for Abby Wolk, who saved just three of 14 shots she faced.

Bella Garabo recorded 13 saves for the Spartans to give them a chance, while Chloe MacDonald led all scorers with six points on four goals and two assists. York (15-6) had beaten St. John Fisher in the first round to advance but couldn’t pull out a win in another close game Sunday.

FRANKLING & MARSHALL 20, STEVENSON 6

The Diplomats took an 8-1 lead and never looked back as they advanced with ease into the regional round. They scored the first five goals of the game, but Caroline Murphy got Stevenson on the board.

Lydia Cassilly finished with four goals, and Gillian Brennan added three goals and one assist to lead a balanced F&M attack. Murphy registered a team-high three goals, and Sophie Shucosky made eight saves for Stevenson, which finished 13-8.

ITHACA 19, CABRINI 9

Caroline Wise dominated the opening few draws to allow the Bombers to net three straight goals and establish momentum early. They took an 8-2 lead into halftime. Sydney Phillips registered six goals and an assist, Maizy Veitch had four goals and two assists and Lexi Held made eight saves to lead Ithaca, which finished with 41 shots.

Sam Hamalak made nine saves in goal for Cabrini, which got a hat trick out of Dana Carlson.
