America East

Albany

Albany had a down season in 2019, but that doesn’t change the expectations that Scott Marr has for his program. The Great Danes have five ranked teams on the schedule, including a big matchup in Albany against Syracuse on April 3. See Albany’s full schedule here.

Binghamton

The Bearcats lost 11 games last year, including a few by a small margin. Binghamton fell to Lafayette 13-12 early in 2019, and it hosts the Leopards on Feb. 22. See Binghamton’s full schedule here.

Hartford

Last season, Hartford fell to in-state rival Quinnipiac 17-16 in an overtime thriller. Entering 2019, the America East slate will be daunting, but a March 17 meeting with Quinnipiac could be equally as fun. See Hartford’s full schedule here.

Stony Brook

The Vermont Catamounts come to town in what could be the deciding game for the America East top seed. Any time these teams meet, it’s a tight battle. The Seawolves won at Vermont 10-9 last season, adding even more fuel to the Catamounts’ fire. See Stony Brook’s full schedule here.

UMass Lowell

UMass Lowell finished in a tie for the bottom spot in the America East last season, but managed to upset Vermont along the way. Can they do it again? We’ll find out in Burlington on March 28. See UMass Lowell’s full schedule here.

UMBC

Two one-goal classics came out of the UMBC-Vermont matchup last season, and 2020 might not be much different. On March 14, the Retrievers head up to Vermont for a rematch of the conference title game. See UMBC’s full schedule here.

Vermont

Vermont had a strong season in 2019, but was upset in the America East final to a determined UMBC squad. The Catamounts can get their revenge on March 14, when UMBC travels to Vermont. See Vermont’s full schedule here.

Atlantic Coast Conference

Duke

One could toss a dart at Duke’s strong schedule and find an intriguing matchup. The April 9 date in Charlottesville jumps out, since Virginia broke a long streak of futility against Duke in the NCAA semifinals a year ago, before winning its sixth title. Maybe a real rivalry has returned. See Duke’s full schedule here.

North Carolina

Any time North Carolina and Johns Hopkins meet, it has the making of a classic. Last year, the two teams battled it out in the mud of Kenan Stadium, but the Tar Heels fell by a goal. This time at Homewood could be just as tight. See North Carolina’s full schedule here.

Notre Dame

Any matchup between Notre Dame and Virginia has the potential to be an instant classic, but it takes on a new meaning with the Cavaliers entering as defending champions. The Irish will have an early barometer for their progress in 2020. See Notre Dame’s full schedule here.

Syracuse

Last season, the Orange held their own against Virginia behind a breakout three-goal performance from Jacob Buttermore. But UVA rallied with a five-goal fourth quarter and OT winner by Mikey Herring. Not only will this game have ACC and NCAA tournament implications, but also the sheer legacy of this rivalry — people still talk about Syracuse’s 22-21 shootout win of 1997 — makes it a must-watch. See Syracuse’s full schedule here.

Virginia

The first regular-season game between these two border schools since Maryland left the ACC for the Big Ten following the 2014 season would be juicy enough, but throw in last year’s NCAA quarterfinal game that Virignia won in OT thanks in part to a controversial goal late in regulation, and you’ve got a circle-the-date game. See Virginia’s full schedule here.

Big East

Denver

It was Georgetown, which upended Denver in the Big East semifinals, that ended the Pioneers’ streak of nine consecutive NCAA tournament appearances last spring. Denver gets a rematch on March 28 in its Big East opener in Washington. Denver is 6-0 in the regular season against the Hoyas since joining the Big East, but 1-2 in the league tournament. See Denver’s full schedule here.

Georgetown

The Hoyas have developed a bit of a rivalry with Denver over the past few years, knocking off the Pioneers in back-to-back Big East finals. The two teams will meet again on April 28 in a matchup that could decide the top seed in the conference. See Georgetown’s full schedule here.

Marquette

A one-goal loss to Denver kept the Golden Eagles out of the Big East tournament and clinching a losing record last season. New coach Andrew Stimmel and his Marquette program will travel to Denver on April 24. See Marquette’s full schedule here.

Providence

The Friars came dangerously close to advancing to the Big East final last season, but fell 13-12 at the hands of Georgetown. Providence will have a chance at revenge on April 4. See Providence’s full schedule here.

St. John’s

The Red Storm went winless in conference last season en route to a 4-10 record. The closest game was a one-goal loss to Providence, and that could be the case in 2020. St. John’s travels to Providence on March 28. See St. John’s’ full schedule here.

Villanova

Two meetings and two overtime wins in the past two seasons over a Yale team that made its way to the NCAA title game. This Villanova team has a knack for stepping up against the Bulldogs, and it’ll have a chance to make it three straight on Feb. 15. See Villanova’s full schedule here.

Big Ten

Johns Hopkins

A year after getting swept by the Nittany Lions — a 20-9 regular-season rout and an 18-17 overtime classic in the Big Ten title game — the Blue Jays could be primed to go toe-to-toe again with Penn State at Homewood Field. A victory could carry large NCAA tournament implications for Hopkins. See Johns Hopkins’ full schedule here.

Maryland

Maryland is again the first Big Ten team to get a shot at the Nittany Lions, who rolled through the conference’s regular season and tournament without a blemish. The Terrapins’ somewhat older defense might be able to better withstand Grant Ament and company than they did last year, when they found themselves down seven goals after a quarter in what became a 13-10 loss. See Maryland’s full schedule here.

Michigan

Michigan could be in for a solid season in 2020, but Big Ten is always a test for the Wolverines. To make any run to the postseason, Michigan will have to get through a few Top 20 teams. A meeting with rival Ohio State in the Shoe on April 25 could be vital. See Michigan’s full schedule here.

Ohio State

How different things might have been for the Buckeyes (or Denver, for that matter) had this game been played last season rather than canceled because of weather-related travel problems. It’s the cap to a four-game homestand to close out nonconference play, and one of the Buckeyes’ prime chances to pick up a high-end victory prior to Big Ten play. See Ohio State’s full schedule here.

Penn State

This tilt will have a postseason edge about it. Expect Penn State to bring extra emotion to the fray. Yale handed the Nittany Lions their only two losses of the 2019 season and ended Penn State’s first-ever playoff run after scoring 10 of the first 12 goals in the NCAA semifinals. See Penn State’s full schedule here.

Rutgers

The Scarlet Knights and Buckeyes have traded victories since the start of Big Ten lacrosse in 2015, with Rutgers dealing Ohio State a 14-6 loss last year to open conference play. This has a chance to once again be a bellwether game, and for Rutgers, claiming a victory at home to open the league slate could provide vital. See Rutgers’ full schedule here.

Colonial Athletic Association

Delaware

This Blue Hens team has a very real shot at making the NCAA tournament through the CAA, but it will have to get through Towson and UMass first. Delaware will host the Minutemen on April 24. See Delaware’s full schedule here.

Drexel

The Dragons managed to split two meetings with UMass during an up-and-down 2019 season. The loss came by a goal at UMass, and now they’ll have the chance to host the CAA’s elite. Mark the calendars for March 28. See Drexel’s full schedule here.

Fairfield

As if the New England Division I lacrosse contingent wasn’t stacked enough, Merrimack joins the fold in 2020. The Stags will get their first look at Merrimack as a Division I program when they host the Warriors on Feb. 18. See Fairfield’s full schedule here.

Hofstra

Nothing like a Long Island rivalry. The Pride head to Stony Brook on Feb. 25 for Island bragging rights. See Hofstra’s full schedule here.

Towson

Towson may have the talent to secure an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament, but Nadelen will not want to count on that. A matchup with a loaded UMass on April 11 could eventually decide who gets home-field advantage in the CAA tournament. See Towson’s full schedule here.

UMass

The Minutemen have taken three games in a row against the Tigers, and the teams have combined for seven of the Colonial Athletic Association’s last eight automatic bids. It’s possible this game in Amherst ultimately determines who plays host to the conference tournament this spring. See UMass’ full schedule here.

Independents

Cleveland State

Cleveland State impressed en route to an 8-7 record in 2019. In order to repeat that feat this season, the Vikings will need to play top-end Division I teams tough. That includes a meeting with Michigan on Feb. 8. See Cleveland State’s full schedule here.

Hampton

Hampton is among the newest Division I men’s lacrosse programs, as is Utah, a team Hampton will meet in Salt Lake City on March 21. See Hampton’s full schedule here.

Utah

Last year, Utah pushed Duke for most of three quarters in what was an impressive showing. The Utes return to Durham on May 3 to cap the season — and it’s assistant coach Marcus Holman’s birthday. See Utah’s full schedule here.

Ivy League

Brown

Brown got the better of Princeton in last season’s matchup, but the Tigers enter with high hopes in Michael Sowers’ senior season. This one on March 28 should be fun. See Brown’s full schedule here.

Cornell

Yale twice beat the Big Red by five goals in 2019, the bigger of the two coming in the opening round of the Ivy League tournament. The rematch is March 14. See Cornell’s full schedule here.

Dartmouth

A trip to Hartford on April 7 gives Dartmouth the opportunity to avenge last season’s 12-11 loss at home. See Dartmouth’s full schedule here.

Harvard

A three-OT thriller against Boston U. went Harvard’s way last spring, and Boston U. comes to town in 2020 on March 17. See Harvard’s full schedule here.

Penn

Penn was perfect in conference play during the regular season but fell to Yale in OT, 19-18, in the NCAA quarterfinals. Penn had previously beaten Yale 13-12 in three OTs and then 12-11 for the conference title. This is must-watch TV on March 28. See Penn’s full schedule here.

Princeton

The Tigers were up and down in a rocky 2019, notching great wins and bad losses. They lost the regular-season finale to Cornell, 14-13, and April 25 gives us potentially the last chance to watch Jeff Teat and Michael Sowers share the field. See Princeton’s full schedule here.

Yale

The Bulldogs’ second game of the season on Feb. 22 is an early test against Penn State, a game that could be a potential NCAA championship preview. See Yale’s full schedule here.

Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference

Canisius

The Golden Griffins finished 2019 at .500, but managed a win over eventual No. 2 seed Quinnipiac in the process. This time, Canisius will have to travel to Quinnipiac on April 11 to get it done. See Canisius’ full schedule here.

Detroit Mercy

Despite falling in the MAAC tournament semifinals last season, Detroit Mercy had a strong season. The Titans even took down eventual champion Marist in the regular season. An April 11 matchup with the Red Foxes presents another chance to make a conference run. See Detroit Mercy’s full schedule here.

Manhattan

The Jaspers almost knocked off eventual MAAC champion Marist at the tail end of last year, but fell by one goal. Manhattan will travel to meet the Red Foxes on April 18. See Manhattan’s full schedule here.

Marist

The Red Foxes advanced to the NCAA tournament with an epic victory over Quinnipiac last May. The next meeting comes on March 14 at Marist, and this one could have postseason implications as well. See Marist’s full schedule here.

Monmouth

The battle of New Jersey? After facing off with NJIT on Feb. 8, Monmouth will have a chance to upset in-state foe Princeton on Feb. 15. See Monmouth’s full schedule here.

Quinnipiac

It was a heartbreaking exit in the 2019 MAAC final, falling 15-14 at the hands of Marist. Quinnipiac won’t need more motivation as it hosts the Red Foxes early in MAAC play this time around. See Quinnipiac’s full schedule here.

Siena

Siena narrowly got past rival Canisius last season, winning 9-8. The heated matchup heads to Loudonville, N.Y. this year, with Siena heading to Canisius on April 25. See Siena’s full schedule here.

St. Bonaventure

The Bonnies are still a new program looking to find a footing in Division I men’s lacrosse, but it’s always fun to take on the best. St. Bonaventure will head to Denver on Feb. 22 to try to slay Goliath. See St. Bonaventure’s’ full schedule here.

Northeast Conference

Bryant

Coming off a down season in 2019, Bryant will look to rebound this spring. Even if an NEC title is out of reach by April, the Bulldogs will have a chance to knock off in-state rival Brown on April 21. See Bryant’s full schedule here.

Hobart

Hobart lost a pair of heartbreakers to Robert Morris last season, with one coming in overtime at the end of the regular season and the other in the NEC title game by a goal. Rest assured, when these teams meet again on April 27, it’s going to be fun. See Hobart’s full schedule here.

Long Island U.

LIU Post was one of the top teams in Division II for decades, but makes the move to Division I in 2020 along with Merrimack. On April 11, the two former D-II stalwarts meet in North Andover for NEC bragging rights. See LIU’s full schedule here.

Merrimack

The kings of Division II now have to fight their battles in the Northeast Conference. But the Warriors are not alone. LIU is now a member of the NEC, and the April 11 meeting will feel like old times again. See Merrimack’s full schedule here.

Mount St. Mary’s

Mount St. Mary’s like its NEC counterpart Hobart, had its 2019 season in a one-goal thriller against Robert Morris. Revenge will be on its mind come April 25, when it hosts Bobby Mo. See Mount St. Mary’s full schedule here.

NJIT

In what was a 2-13 season, NJIT suffered more than a few blows from quality opponents. One of the losses NJIT would love to avenge is a one-goal decision against Manhattan. That chance comes on March 7, when the Jaspers come to town. See NJIT’s full schedule here.

Robert Morris

Robert Morris made a magical run to the NEC championship last year, topping Hobart by a goal in the title game. In order to defend that title, the Colonials may have to top Hobart once again. Circle April 14 on the calendar. See Robert Morris’ full schedule here.

Sacred Heart

What could Sacred Heart’s 2019 season have been without two one-goal losses to Hobart? The Pioneers won’t ever know, but they make sure it doesn’t happen again in 2020. Sacred Heart battles Hobart on March 28. See Sacred Heart’s full schedule here.

Saint Joseph’s

Philadelphia is slowly becoming a hotspot for lacrosse, and the four teams that make up Philly’s Division I men’s lacrosse contingent will celebrate that feat in the Philly 4 Lacrosse Classic. There, the Hawks will meet a quality Penn team on March 8. See Saint Joseph’s full schedule here.

Wagner

Wagner, coming off a tough 2019 slate, will meet three straight Long Island/New York City opponents to start the 2020 season. A meeting with Manhattan on Feb. 22 is a good chance to pick up an early win. See Wagner’s full schedule here.

Patriot League

Army

The last time Army was on the field at the Ridley Athletic Complex on May 5, 2019, they were crowned Patriot League champions after defeating Lehigh, 11-7. Two days earlier, they upset the top-seeded Greyhounds, 7-5, in a defensive battle and held Pat Spencer scoreless. The regular season contest this year in Baltimore will likely have playoff implications once again. See Army’s full schedule here.

Boston U.

A team that’s always a factor when it comes to conference play, Boston U. will likely be in a battle to make the Patriot League tournament. A matchup with a solid Army team on April 24 could be the ticket to the postseason for the Terriers.  See Boston U.’s full schedule here.

Bucknell

The Bison upset Lehigh in Bethlehem last season, arguably their biggest win in 2019. Could Bucknell be up for the task again in 2020? It will head back to Lehigh on April 4, where the Mountain Hawks will be looking for revenge. See Bucknell’s full schedule here.

Colgate

The win of Colgate’s 2019 season came on Feb. 8, when it took down Syracuse in the dome. The Raiders are looking to make it two straight years, when they head back to the Carrier Dome on Feb. 7. See Colgate’s full schedule here.

Holy Cross

The Crusaders made it out of two double-overtime games unscathed last season, beating Ivy League foes Harvard and Brown. The in-state battle with Harvard will be another fun one, with Holy Cross looking for a second straight win on Feb. 25. See Holy Cross’ schedule here.

Lafayette

The Lehigh-Lafayette matchup has produced more than a few thrilling games in Patriot League play. This year, coach Pat Myers and his program will hope to make a statement on March 28 in Easton, Pa. See Lafayette’s full schedule here.

Lehigh

The path to the No. 1 seed in the Patriot League tournament could very well go through Loyola again this year, and Lehigh might be as good a bet as anyone to dislodge the Greyhounds from the top spot in the conference. However, the Mountain Hawks are 0-8 all-time against Loyola, with the last four meetings each decided by at least six goals. See Lehigh’s full schedule here.

Loyola

Life comes at you fast when you lose a Tewaaraton winner to graduation. The Greyhounds open the post-Pat Spencer era on the road against the 2019 national champions, who happened to begin last season on the wrong end of a 17-9 drubbing against the Greyhounds. Any way you slice it, it’s a tough opening test. See Loyola’s full schedule here.

Navy

There is no rivalry greater than that of Army vs. Navy in Division I men’s lacrosse. Joe Amplo will experience his first such game when the Midshipmen travel to West Point on April 18 in a crucial Patriot League matchup. See Navy’s full schedule here.

Southern Conference

Air Force

Air Force has been known to pull an early-season upset, and it will get two chances to open the year. After meeting Duke, the Falcons will host Denver in a game is often contested to the end. See Air Force’s full schedule here

Bellarmine
Bellarmine watched as High Point had one of its best seasons in school history last season. The Knights, though, gave the Panthers a scare in a 16-15 loss last April. See Bellarmine’s full schedule here.

Furman

Salt Lake City is beautiful in the winter, and Furman will make the trip there to battle second-year program Utah on Feb. 22. Last year, the Paladins fell by a goal to the Utes. See Furman’s full schedule here.

High Point

High Point burst onto the scene at the start of the 2019 season, upsetting Duke and Virginia in a matter of weeks and entering the Top 20. The Panthers will have another shot at both teams. High Point travels to Charlottesville on April 25 to face the defending NCAA champions. See High Point’s full schedule here.

Jacksonville

The Dolphins saw their season end at the hands of High Point in the SoCon semifinals. The 2020 matchup takes place on the last weekend of the regular season and could be key for either team to make the postseason. See Jacksonville’s full schedule here.

Mercer

Mercer struggled throughout a 1-12 season in 2019, but provided a test for SoCon opponents like Furman and High Point. The Bears will travel to Furman on April 6 in a game that could be tight. See Mercer’s full schedule here.

Richmond

The Spiders upset High Point in the SoCon final and punched its ticket to the NCAA tournament. The Panthers will be looking for revenge when they come to town on March 21. See Richmond’s full schedule here.

VMI

VMI couldn’t tally a conference win last season, coming close in a one-goal loss to Bellarmine. That game could present a good chance for the Cadets to end the conference losing streak on April 4. See VMI’s full schedule here.
