Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Greg Gurenlian and Trevor Baptiste are Team USA’s master and apprentice on the faceoff.

Before Gurenlian formally passes the torch to Baptiste, the grizzled veteran and hotshot rookie will team up for the U.S. men’s national team at the 2018 FIL Men’s World Championship in Israel this summer.

Jerry Ragonese – their mutual friend, Faceoff Academy co-founder, Garden State resident and former Major League Lacrosse veteran – has faced both Beast One (Gurenlian) and Beast Two (Baptiste) over the years. What does he see?

“Really, you’re looking at a student and teacher,” he said, “and they’re kind of evening out.”

More than 10 years separate Gurenlian, who has become the face of his position over the past half-decade, and Baptiste, who’s done the same over the same period of time at Denver. They’ll likely room together in Israel.

2. While the sport has a limited history with gambling, the lacrosse community has responded to the Supreme Court’s decision Monday that opens all 50 states to legalize sports wagering, according to an Inside Lacrosse report.

The NCAA, which oversees collegiate men’s and women’s lacrosse across all divisions, released a statement as it prohibits championship events in states that allow sports betting.

“Today the United States Supreme Court issued a clear decision that PASPA is unconstitutional, reversing the lower courts that held otherwise. While we are still reviewing the decision to understand the overall implications to college sports, we will adjust sports wagering and championship policies to align with the direction from the court," said Donald Remy, NCAA chief legal officer, in a press release. 

Major League Lacrosse commissioner Alexander “Sandy” Brown also made a statement.

We are gratified by the Supreme Court’s ruling allowing the states to pass laws legalizing sports betting. That said, we favor a federally sponsored framework for the states. Moreover, regardless of how these laws materialize, the integrity of our game is what we hold most dear.

“It’s about time,” added Travis Eldrige of Lax Sports Network. “People are going to gamble on sports whether the state says that they can or can’t. It’s happening all over the place, so you might as well let it happen.”

3. The streak ends, bringing a new national No. 1 team to the top. For the first time since 2009, McDonogh (Md.) does not lead the Nike/US Lacrosse High School Girls’ National Top 25.

The Eagles’ 198-game winning streak was snapped by Notre Dame Prep (Md.) in a 10-8 win for the Blazers in the IAAM championship – making room for Manhasset (N.Y.) to ascend to the No. 1 spot.

On the boys’ side, rematches loom large in the Nike/US Lacrosse High School Boys’ National Top 25.

No. 1 Culver Academy (Ind.) could face another encounter with the Hill Academy (Canada), while four teams ranked in the top six saw rematches Tuesday – No. 3 McDonogh (Md.) vs. No. 6 Boys’ Latin (Md.) and No. 4 Calvert Hall (Md.) vs. No. 5 Loyola Blakefield (Md.).
