Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. The U.S. women’s team, which won two world championships last summer, is one of 21 contestants for the International World Games Athlete of the Year. Voting runs through the month with the top nine vote-getters by Jan. 15 advancing to the finals. Cast your vote here.

2. The January 2018 issue of US Lacrosse Magazine recently hit members’ homes and Tom Schreiber of the U.S. men’s team is on the cover. Take a look inside the January edition.

3. The contenders for the Warrior Preseason Player of the Year, selected by US Lacrosse Magazine, are ridiculously good. Trevor Baptiste, Connor Fields, Connor Kelly and Ben Reeves made our final four out of a deep pool of candidates. Who do you think should earn the honor?

4. Ryan Benesch, acquired in an off-season trade, leads the National Lacrosse League in scoring and is a big reason the Colorado Mammoth are off to a 3-0 start this season.

5. The “new” Philadelphia Wings haven’t played a game yet, but they’re already brewing up a little rivalry with the New England Black Wolves as the duo try to earn the love of former Notre Dame football player and ESPN personality Mike Golic Jr.

WHAT WE’RE READING

• The Long Island Metro Lacrose Foundation, a regional chapter of US Lacrosse, holds its annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony later this month. The honorees include current U.S. men’s team player Matt Danowski and past U.S. U19 team members Liam Banks and Krista Pellizzi McDonough.

• The Chesapeake Chapter of US Lacrosse will also hold its Hall of Fame induction ceremony in late January. Former U.S. men’s team player Craig Bubier and U.S. World Cup player Crista Samaras are among the inductees.

• Former Princeton All-American and two-time U.S. team goalie Trevor Tierney is an ambassador for TrueSport, a component of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, aimed at curtailing the overemphasis on winning in youth sports.

• Marist goalie Brian Corrigan has the double honor of being named a captain for the Red Foxes, and will wear No. 34 this spring in honor of Edward Coombs, a former Marist player who died in a car accident in 2011.
