1. It’s rankings season. We released the Nike/US Lacrosse Preseason Division I Women’s Top 20 for the upcoming season, highlighted by North Carolina at the top and defending NCAA champion Maryland checking in at No. 3.

2. The Nike/US Lacrosse Preseason Division I Men’s Top 20 also dropped, with dynamic Penn State edging out defending national champion Virginia for the top spot.

3. Inside Lacrosse’s rankings, however, have Virginia ranked first and Penn State second — an example of the case to be made for both squads.

4. US Lacrosse CEO Steve Stenersen wrote about how lacrosse can be a powerful vehicle for happiness, health and success. The article can be found in the December edition.

WHAT WE'RE READING

• Former Navy women’s lacrosse player Lindsay Rheiner qualified for the Olympic marathon trials after clocking a time of 2:43.43 in the Military World Games marathon.

• Oregon announced its 2020 signing class of eight players, two of whom — Gianna Cameron (Franklin, Mass.) and Katie Freeman (Lake Oswego, Ore.) — were former US Lacrosse All-Americans.

• College Crosse had some fun by picking the college football bowl games based on nothing but lacrosse. Literally. There’s no football.

• College Crosse also previewed Siena’s 2020 men’s lacrosse schedule.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

Gale Thorpe scored his first career NLL goal on Saturday, and it was one of the wraparound variety.
