Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. . Ivy League women’s lacrosse co-leader Cornell gave Syracuse a major scare before the Orange pulled away for a 16-13 win behind four goals from freshman Meaghan Tyrrell. Cornell led 4-0 early and 12-11 with just under 11 minutes to play. Emily Hawryschuk had a hat trick to move into a tie for seventh all-time in goals, tying the game on this rip.

Elsewhere in women’s lacrosse, No. 1 Boston College moved to 16-0 with a 15-10 win over Yale. Dartmouth scored a season-high 22 goals in a 22-10 win over Vermont.

2. No. 7 Virginia routed state rival VMI 24-5 as midfielder Dox Aitken scored his 95^th career goal, setting a new record for a UVa midfielder. Xander Dickson led the Cavaliers with seven goals, including this behind-the-back goal after a ground ball in front of the cage.

Sacred Heart’s Joe Saggese had three goals and five assists in the Pioneers 17-9 win over Binghamton, setting new school record for points in a season (66) and career (197). Brown won the battle of Providence, beating the Friars 9-7 behind 17 saves from Phil Goss.

3. The NCAA released its first RPI numbers for men’s lacrosse and Patrick Stevens checked in with his first bracketology of the season. It’s a weird season with several AQ’s featuring low RPIs. That means a very small bubble for some very good teams.

4. The Women’s Professional Lacrosse League received a major visibility boost with a new media deal. The league announced that ESPN3 will stream the regular season schedule and the championship game will be carried on ESPNU, the league’s first game on broadcast television.

5. The Premier Lacrosse League will hold the opening round of its playoffs in Columbus, Ohio at MAPFRE Stadium Sept. 6-7. Home of the Columbus Crew, MAPFRE Stadium was the first soccer-specific stadium in Major League Soccer and hosted the Major League Lacrosse championship game in 2002.

6. Roanoke goalie Ian Davies earned first team USILA Division III All-America honors last year, playing to honor his mother who died the year before. The senior is putting up strong numbers again as the Maroons get ready for the ODAC tournament.

7. Eli Espinosa is bringing lacrosse back to his hometown of Ellenville, N.Y., with the help of a US Lacrosse First Stick Program grant.

• Former Albany player Mike Banks, who became the first member of his family to go to college despite a troubled youth, shared his story and the role the sport played in it with players from his old high school, McMahon (Conn.), and Stamford before the two teams’ recent game.

• Inside Lacrosse has announced the second wave of players that will compete in the 2019 Under Armor All-America games. Boys Selections | Girls Selections

• US Lacrosse CEO Steve Stenersen’s column in the April issue of US Lacrosse Magazine shines a light on how sports can sooth a culture of contempt with warm heartedness and good humor.

• Early morning practices – twice a week at 6 a.m. – are just one away that the Siena men’s lacrosse team is coming together and embracing a new culture.

• The Daily Orange profiles former Syracuse star and U.S. gold medalist Joel White as they look back at players from the 2009 national championship team.

• Canadian John Grant led Delaware to the NCAA quarterfinals in 1999. The Blue Hens are off to a 10-2 start for the first time since that season 20 years ago thanks in part to more Canadian influence.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

The IWLCA has launched a campaign to help keep the new recruiting legislation intact. The new rule passed in 2017 has been widely lauded for helping to keep early recruiting in check, but a vote this week could push the first contact up from Sept. 1 to June 15.

• Traditional Ivy League women’s powers Penn and Princeton meet on ESPNU at 6 p.m. with the winner moving into a tie for first place in the league. At 7 p.m., No. 2 Maryland takes the short trip south to Washington D.C. to play Georgetown on FS1.
