Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. The hottest team in New York is suddenly Cornell. The Big Red stretched their winning streak to five games with a start-to-finish 13-8 victory over Syracuse. Cornell sophomore Jeff Teat continued his stellar play with two goals and four assists, giving him 71 points in 11 games this year.

The two things people were talking about after this game were whether or not Teat intentionally threw this behind-the-back bounce pass for one of his assists, and Stephen Refhuss' shovel goal for Syracuse.

In the other big men's game of the day, Loyola beat Georgetown 11-8 behind two goals and five assists from Pat Spencer. Spencer now has 147 career assists, breaking the old Patriot League record of 142 set by Army's Tim Pearson (1999-2000).

2. Maryland's women got quite the scare before rallying from a four-goal second-half deficit to beat Princeton 11-10 on Taylor Hensh's free position goal with 45 seconds to play. Megan Whittle had a hat trick for the Terps, the third goal tying her with Jen Adams for the Maryland all-time record with 267 goals.

3. We released this week's Nike/US Lacrosse Boys' High School Top 25 yesterday, and by last night there was already one big change in order. McDonogh (Md.) came back from an early 3-0 deficit to beat No. 3 Calvert Hall (Md.) 6-4.

4. Bishop Ireton (Va.), ranked No. 8 in this week's Nike/US Lacrosse High School Girls Top 25, visited US Lacrosse headquarters yesterday and jumped out to a 7-1 halftime lead on the way to a 12-6 victory over Episcopal Academy (Pa.).

5. In the high school scene, we also announced our Warrior/US Lacrosse boys and Brine/US Lacrosse girls regional players of the week yesterday.

6. Patrick Stevens checked in with his second bracketology update for NCAA Division I men's lacrosse. Cornell is one of the teams that he said had a big opportunity this week, and the Big Red delivered.

7. Brown, Oregon and Virginia Tech picked up big program wins over the weekend. Jeremy Fallis checks in with the three coaches in his weekly notebook.

8. Snow, rain, cold, it didn't matter, our photographers captured some great images from the weekend's college lacrosse action. Check out their work here.

9. You won't find many players more liked or more respected in Major League Lacrosse than Anthony Kelly. He announced on Instagram yesterday that he's retiring from the league, but we're excited to hear that the A-Train is hoping to give it one more go and try to make the 2019 U.S. Indoor Team.

 

I have decided that I will not attend MLL training camp this year and I will be stepping away from the game I love. It's just time. Bottom line. It's a hard thing to understand and comprehend. When you are about to turn 38 and you’ve taken as many FO’s as I have, your body tells you when the time has come as well! It's been an incredible journey and one heck of a ride. I've been able to play in this league a lot longer than most, overcome 2 ruptured Achilles, a shredded hamstring, broken ankle and have only had about 70% grip strength in my left hand for the last 5 years after ripping all the ligaments in my left thumb. Never a complaint or an excuse. In fact unlike most, I played through the majority of those without saying a thing. I've been able to play with and against some of the greatest players this sport has ever seen. I've won an MLL Championship and played in more All Star Games than anyone ever in my position. At the end of the day, those things along with many others, aren't what's important. I hope I was able to leave a lasting impression on some young players out there. If I was able to crack one smile on a young lacrosse player or give one kid a reason to pick up his stick to practice, then I did my part. And every time I stepped on the field I tried my absolute best to be sure I made my family and friends proud. Without their support over the years there is no way I could have made it this long. If you ever want to know about me as a player ask a guy that I played with. I always lead by example both on and off the field and gave everything I had every time I stepped on the field. I tried to play this game the right way at all times - hard, passionately and respectfully. I always prided myself on being the best team guy and always going out of my way to make rookies feel welcome. Too hard to thank everyone but I’d like to thank all of the organizations I’ve been lucky enough to play for. There have been so many people that believed in me when nobody else did. I thank you all! My final challenge and goal is to make the @uslacrosse Indoor Team and retire with a medal around my neck! Followed by becoming a head coach in the MLL!

• Syracuse wasn't expecting to see Caelahn Bullen in net for Cornell, but that's what they got. Bullen made 14 saves in the Big Red victory.

• Scott Marr helped customers wake up early Tuesday morning as he worked the drive thru at a Dunkin Donuts as part of a promotion. The Albany coach hopes Friday night's loss to UMBC was a wake-up call for his team.

• Katherine Dunn looks at Maryland's Megan Whittle chasing her idol, Jen Adams, for the school's all-time goals record.

• Eric Fannell, Austin Shanks and Jake Withers have carried their friendship from Ohio State to the Rochester Knighthawks in the National Lacrosse League.

• The Gaits were amazing players, but their contributions to the game go far beyond the playing field. The Daily Orange examines the brothers influence on women's sticks.

• The boys' lacrosse team at Detroit Catholic Central, ranked No. 2 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Midwest rankings, beat No. 9 Brother Rice 10-9 on Tuesday night, its first win over the Warriors since 1994.
