Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. Sept. 1 has come and gone, and the Class of 2020 is now able to come in contact with prospective college lacrosse coaches. The buildup to the new Sept.1 window was extensive, and some of the game’s biggest names shared words of advice and encouragement for college recruits.
2. The Peterborough Lakers won their ninth Major Series Lacrosse championship in 16 years over the weekend, topping the Oakville Rock 8-7 to take Game 6 and the series.
Down 5-2, the Lakers used a hat trick from Shawn Evans to pull ahead and take the first and only road victory of the series. Zach Currier’s late goal was enough to seal the 8-7 victory.
The Lakers advance to the Mann Cup to face Curtis Dickson and the Maple Ridge Burrards. Game 1 will begin on Friday night.
3. From VP to MVP: Team USA’s Michael Ehrhardt entered the FIL World Championship as an unknown, but he left it as the most valuable player.
Ehrhardt, who serves as a vice president at First Nationwide Title Agency in New York, took over in Israel. Months of hard work led to him being just the second defender named MVP of the FIL World Championship (Dave Pietramala 1990).
4. Brooke Gubitosi, a former Stony Brook women's lacrosse star, is enjoying her time as a ball person at the U.S. Open in New York City. Gubitosi finished her Seawolves career last season, but decided to try out to be a ball person.
She was honored to work a Madison Keys match at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the tournament's show court.
