Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. The U.S. men’s roster for the Team USA Fall Classic was announced Monday.
It features seven players from the 2018 U.S. gold medalists, including world championship MVP Michael Ehrhardt and all-world attackman Ryan Brown. The coaching staff, headlined by Duke coach John Danowski, will also return.
The U.S. men will play Yale, the 2018 NCAA champion, at noon Saturday. Check out the full roster here.
2. The MLL moved the start of its season to after Memorial Day, the league announced Monday.
The 2019 season will start Friday, May 31, which eliminate much of the overlap with the NLL season and allow college graduates to play a full rookie season.
“By moving the season’s opener back from our traditional April start, we are allowing players to wrap up their other commitments before opening night,” MLL commissioner Sandy Brown said.
3. Maryland junior Jared Bernhardt was spotted wearing the No. 1 jersey, which has built its own legacy within the program and is assigned to the player who embodies performance and leadership on the offense. Connor Kelly, a 2018 graduate, was the last to wear it in a long line of successful Terps.
4. A short documentary on Brendan Looney was shared Monday. Looney, the three-sport standout at DeMatha Catholic High School, former Navy lacrosse player and Navy SEAL who died in Afghanistan while serving, received the 2014 Spirit of Tewaaraton Award. Follow the link to watch.
